WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU TOUCH OR MOVE THE RAM AIR TURBINE (RAT). THE RAT BLADES ARE MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND CAN EASILY BECOME DAMAGED.

3. Job Set-up

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to stand directly behind or in the extension area of the RAT.
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (3) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).

4. Procedure

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE RAT TRAVEL RANGE IS CLEAR BEFORE YOU EXTEND/RETRACT THE RAT.
WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO MAINTENANCE OR TESTS ON THE RAM AIR TURBINE (RAT), MAKE SURE THAT THE PROTECTION CAGE IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED ON THE RAT. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THE RAT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS WHEN THE BLUE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM IS PRESSURIZED.
A. Extension of the RAT on the Ground
NOTE: Make sure that a second person is on the ground near the RAT to observe the extension of the RAT.
NOTE: Do not operate the RAT deployment solenoids for more than 60 seconds. You can operate them more than once. When the operation time (solenoids energized) is max. 60 seconds, you must let the solenoids cool for 30 minutes.
   (1) On the overhead panel 21VU, open the protective cover and push the MAN ON/AUTO switch in the section EMER ELEC PWR.
   (2) Make sure that the RAT extends.
   (3) Install the COVER - PROTECTION on the turbine blades.
   (4) Install the 98D29208581000 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT on the RAT. As an alternative, you can use the 98D29207550001 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT.
NOTE: You must install the 98D29208581000 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT or the 98D29207550001 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT on the RAT, if you operate the RAT on the ground.
It is not necessary to install the 98D29208581000 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT or the 98D29207550001 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT on the RAT for the visual inspection or maintenance practice of the RAT.
