WARNING:
PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION:
THIS PART IS A REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENT (RSC), WHICH CAN BE MOVED BETWEEN AIRCRAFT. THUS IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT OPERATION CONDITIONS AND A DIFFERENT LIFE RECORD (FLIGHT HOURS/FLIGHT CYCLES/CALENDAR) FROM THE AIRCRAFT IT IS INSTALLED ON OR REMOVED FROM. THE OPERATOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPECIFIC TRACKING AND CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS OF REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS. INCORRECT MAINTENANCE OF THESE COMPONENTS CAN CAUSE A RISK FOR THE FLIGHT SAFETY.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
(2) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the slat controls.
(3) Make sure that the ground safety locks are installed on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
Subtask 27-84-61-860-050-A (1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
(2) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the slat controls.
(3) Make sure that the ground safety locks are installed on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS is on the flap and slat control lever on panel 114VU.

D. Get Access
(2) Remove the Slat 1 (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-63-000-001).
(3) Remove the applicable access panels:
(4) For the tracks 2 and 3, remove the applicable actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-48-000-001).
4. ProcedureCAUTION:
REMOVE THE CLOSING PLATES BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE ACCESS PANELS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CLOSING PLATES.
(1) Remove the applicable closing plate(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-69-000-001). (2) Remove the Slat 1 (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-63-000-001).
(3) Remove the applicable access panels:
- for the left wing, remove the panels 521AB 521BB 521CB 521EB
- for the right wing, remove the panels 621AB 621BB 621CB 621EB
(4) For the tracks 2 and 3, remove the applicable actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-48-000-001).
Subtask 27-84-61-020-053-A
A. Removal of the Slat Tracks 1 thru 4
(3) Pull the track (1) from its installed position and remove it.
(4) Remove the 98D27804014000 TOOL-BACKSTOP SLAT (TRACKS 1, 2, 3, AND 4) (2) from the track (1).
NOTE: When slat tracks 1 and 4 are made it can be necessary to install spacers in the main channel. This is to get the correct tolerance. The number of spacers installed in a track can be between zero and four. If spacers are installed, do not remove them when you remove the track.
(1) Install the 98D27804014000 TOOL-BACKSTOP SLAT (TRACKS 1, 2, 3, AND 4) (2) through the guide (3) on the applicable track (1): - on the LH wing, install the TOOL-BACKSTOP SLAT (2) on the inboard side of the track
- on the RH wing, install the TOOL-BACKSTOP SLAT (2) on the outboard side of the track.
(3) Pull the track (1) from its installed position and remove it.
(4) Remove the 98D27804014000 TOOL-BACKSTOP SLAT (TRACKS 1, 2, 3, AND 4) (2) from the track (1).
