Installation of the Fire-Extinguisher Bottle Cartridge


WARNING: THE CARTRIDGE IS AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE. REMOVE IT BEFORE YOU DISASSEMBLE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. TO PREVENT INJURY TO THE PERSONNEL BECAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION OF THE CARTRIDGE IF IT HAS NOT BEEN FIRED:
  • INSTALL A SHUNT DEVICE.
  • THIS WILL SHUNT THE PINS TOGETHER ON THE CARTRIDGE BEFORE ITS REMOVAL.
DO NOT USE A FOIL SHUNT.

Subtask 26-22-42-860-050-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position on panel 25VU to tell the persons not to operate the APU.
WARNING: BEFORE YOU START WORK, YOU MUST PUT ON A SAFETY HARNESS AND ATTACH IT TO THE ACCESS PLATFORM. WITHOUT A SAFETY HARNESS, YOU CAN FALL. THIS CAN KILL YOU OR CAUSE YOU INJURY.
   (2) Put on and attach a safety harness before you start work in the work area
   (3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position below maintenance door 314AR.
   (4) Make sure that access door 314AR is open and safetied in the open position.
(Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-23-010-801).
   (5) If necessary, use a FLASHLIGHT.

4. Procedure
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE MAXIMUM PERMITTED LIFE (MPL) OF THE CARTRIDGE IS LONGER THAN THE TIME TO THE NEXT SCHEDULED DISCARD OF THE CARTRIDGE.
Subtask 26-22-42-210-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
WARNING: BEFORE YOU TOUCH THE POWER DEVICE CARTRIDGE, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE GROUNDED AND THAT YOU INSTALL A SHUNT DEVICE ON IT. USE A CAP OR PLUG AS SHUNT DEVICE (THE CAP OR PLUG WILL SHUNT THE PINS TOGETHER ON THE CARTRIDGE). DO NOT USE A FOIL SHUNT. IF YOU TOUCH A POWER DEVICE CARTRIDGE THAT DOES NOT HAVE A SHUNT DEVICE INSTALLED, AN EXPLOSION CAN OCCUR AND CAUSE INJURIES TO YOU.
   (1) Make sure that the MS25043-10DA CARTRIDGE CAP is installed on the cartridge (2).
   (2) Make sure that the cartridge is in a BAG - ELECTROSTATIC SAFETY.
   (3) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
Subtask 26-22-42-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the Fire-Extinguisher Bottle Cartridge (12WF)
WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL THE CARTRIDGE ON THE DISCHARGE HEAD IF THE HEAD IS NOT INSTALLED ON THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE.
   (1) Install the bonding lug (3) on the cartridge (2).
   (2) Install the new AIPC 26-22-04-01-018 O-RING (7) or AIPC 26-22-84-01-050 O-RING (7) on the cartridge (2).
   (3) Install the cartridge (2) in the Fire-Extinguisher Bottle (8).
   (4) TORQUE the cartridge (2) to between 1.1 and 1.0 m.daN (97.35 and 88.50 lbf.in )
T.
   (5) Safety the cartridge (2) with corrosion-resistant steel lockwire 0.8 mm (0.032 in.) dia.
   (6) Install the washer (4), the bonding strap (5) and the nut (6) on the bonding lug (3) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (7) Remove the MS25043-10DA CARTRIDGE CAP from the cartridge (2).
   (8) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (9) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (10) Connect the electrical connector (1) to the cartridge (2).
Subtask 26-22-42-210-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Preparation for Installation
WARNING: BEFORE YOU TOUCH THE POWER DEVICE CARTRIDGE, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE GROUNDED AND THAT YOU INSTALL A SHUNT DEVICE ON IT. USE A CAP OR PLUG AS SHUNT DEVICE (THE CAP OR PLUG WILL SHUNT THE PINS TOGETHER ON THE CARTRIDGE). DO NOT USE A FOIL SHUNT. IF YOU TOUCH A POWER DEVICE CARTRIDGE THAT DOES NOT HAVE A SHUNT DEVICE INSTALLED, AN EXPLOSION CAN OCCUR AND CAUSE INJURIES TO YOU.
   (1) Make sure that the 6971-0010 CAP SHUNT-FIRE BOTTLE or CAP SHUNT-FIRE BOTTLE (CEC-10) is installed on the cartridge (2).
   (2) Make sure that the cartridge is in a BAG - ELECTROSTATIC SAFETY.
   (3) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
Subtask 26-22-42-420-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Installation of the Fire-Extinguisher Bottle Cartridge (12WF)
   (1) Install the bonding lug (3) on the cartridge (2).
   (2) Install the cartridge (2) in the Fire-Extinguisher Bottle (7).
   (3) TORQUE the cartridge (2) to between 1.1 and 0.9 m.daN (97.35 and 79.65 lbf.in ) T.
   (4) Safety the cartridge (2) with corrosion-resistant steel lockwire 0.8 mm (0.032 in.) dia.
   (5) Install the washer (4), the bonding strap (5) and the nut (6) on the bonding lug (3) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (6) Remove the 6971-0010 CAP SHUNT-FIRE BOTTLE or CAP SHUNT-FIRE BOTTLE (CEC-10) from the cartridge (2).
   (7) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (8) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (9) Connect the electrical connector (1) to the cartridge (2).

E. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

   (5) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
