Installation of the Nacelle External Markings

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 11-24-71-941-066-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position to tell persons not to start engine 1(2).
     (b) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
   (2) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
   (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser system is deactivated (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-040).
Subtask 11-24-71-010-067-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Get Access
   (1) Put on and attach the HARNESS, SAFETY before you start work in the work area.
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position at the work area.
   (3) Make sure that you get access to the area where you must install the markings.
4. Procedure
Subtask 11-24-71-400-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Nacelle External Markings
   (1) Install the stencil markings:
     (a) Get stencils or make them from a 0.015 IN. (0.381 MM) thick stencil board.
NOTE: You can use stencils made from a 0.015 IN. (0.381 MM) thick stencil board more than one time.
     (b) Clean the area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and quickly remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) before it becomes dry.
     (c) Put the STENCIL - NO.3 ALTERNATE-GOTHIC STYLE in position on the nacelle.
     (d) Mix the paint. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions to mix it.
NOTE: Airbus recommends to use a color of paint that is very different from the surface color.
     (e) Apply one layer of paint on the stencil markings with the BRUSH - NYLON or the GUN - AIR SPRAY, STANDARD PAINT.
     (f) Remove the STENCIL - NO.3 ALTERNATE-GOTHIC STYLE.
     (g) Remove the unwanted paint with the cotton swab.
     (h) Let the paint cure. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the paint cure.
     (i) Apply a layer of Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) as follows:
       1 Mix the Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) . Refer to the manufacturer's instructions to mix it.
       2 Apply a layer of Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) on the stencil markings with the BRUSH - NYLON. Do not use the GUN - AIR SPRAY, STANDARD PAINT to apply the Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) .
       3 Let the Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) cure. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for its cure time.
   (2) Install the high-temperature stencil markings:
     (a) Get stencils or make them from a 0.015 in. (0.381 mm) thick stencil board.
NOTE: You can use stencils made from a 0.015 in. (0.381 mm) thick stencil board more than one time.
     (b) Clean the area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and quickly remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) before it becomes dry.
     (c) Put the STENCIL - NO.3 ALTERNATE-GOTHIC STYLE in position on the nacelle.
     (d) Mix the Sermetel high-temperature ink. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions to mix it.
NOTE: Airbus recommends to use a color of ink that is very different from the surface color.
     (e) Apply one layer of ink on the high-temperature stencil markings with the BRUSH - NYLON.
     (f) Remove the STENCIL - NO.3 ALTERNATE-GOTHIC STYLE.
     (g) Remove the unwanted ink with the cotton swab.
     (h) Let the ink cure. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the ink cure.
   (3) Install the transfer markings:
     (a) Get the transfer markings.
NOTE: You can use the stencil markings if the transfer markings are not available.
     (b) Clean the area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and quickly remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) before it becomes dry.
     (c) Mix the Adhesive Deco. Film-Transfer marking Durofix External Structure (Material No.05VEC3) with demineralized water. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions to mix it.
     (d) Put the transfer markings in the activator solution for 20 to 30 seconds.
     (e) Remove the wet transfer markings from the activator solution and put them in position on the nacelle.
     (f) Put the SQUEEGEE in position at the center of the transfer markings and apply pressure on them.
     (g) Move the SQUEEGEE to the edges of the transfer markings to remove the unwanted solution and air pockets.
     (h) Make sure that you equally and correctly applied the transfer markings with the ROLLER - RUBBER.
     (i) Flush the unwanted solution with the SPONGE soaked in demineralized water.
     (j) Remove the backing paper and clean the edges of the transfer markings with the SPONGE soaked in demineralized water. Do not touch the transfer markings for two minutes before you remove the backing paper.
     (k) Let the transfer markings cure for three or four days.
NOTE: The transfer markings can easily be damaged if the rain hits them or if you touch them immediately after you applied them. They will have a satisfactory bond after two days and will fully cure after three or four days.
     (l) Apply a layer of Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) as follows:
       1 Mix the Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) . Refer to the manufacturer's instructions to mix it.
       2 Apply a layer of Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) on the transfer markings with the BRUSH - NYLON. Do not use the GUN - AIR SPRAY, STANDARD PAINT to apply the Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) .
       3 Let the Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) cure. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for its cure time.
       4 Do the bonding test as follows:
         a Apply a 1.0 in. (25.4 mm) wide strip of Adhesive Film Tape-Masking - - (Material No.05RDA1) on the surface of the transfer markings.
         b Remove the tape from the surface of the transfer markings with a sudden vertical movement.
   (4) Install the decal markings:
     (a) Lightly abrade the nacelle surface and the adjacent area where you will install the decal markings with Abrasive-- Scotch Brite Pads - (Material No.14FAB1) .
     (b) Clean the area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and quickly remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) before it becomes dry.
     (c) Remove the backing paper from the decal markings.
     (d) Put the decal markings in position on the nacelle.
     (e) Apply a constant pressure on the decal markings with the SQUEEGEE.
     (f) Apply layers of Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) as follows:
       1 Mix the Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) . Refer to the manufacturer's instructions to mix it.
       2 Apply a layer of Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) with the BRUSH - NYLON:
  • On the decal markings
  • Around the edges of the decal markings with an overlap of 0.25 in. (6.3 mm) on the adjacent area.
       3 Wait for 20 minutes until the Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) becomes dry.
       4 Apply a layer of Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative Furnishing (Material No.04JMD9) with the BRUSH - NYLON:
  • On the decal markings
  • Around the edges of the decal markings with an overlap of 0.25 in. (6.3 mm) on the adjacent area.
       5 Do the bonding test as follows:
         a Apply a 1.0 in. (25.4 mm) wide strip of Adhesive Film Tape-Masking - - (Material No.05RDA1) on the surface of the decal markings.
         b Remove the tape from the surface of the decal markings with a sudden vertical movement.
   (5) Install the label plates:
     (a) Clean the surface and the label plate with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and quickly remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) before it becomes dry.
     (b) Mix the Silicone Adhesive Sealant-Solvant Resistant One part - (Material No.06CDD1) . Refer to the manufacturer's instructions to mix it.
     (c) Apply Silicone Adhesive Sealant-Solvant Resistant One part - (Material No.06CDD1) on the mating surfaces of the label plates and area where you will install the label plates. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions to apply it.
     (d) Install the label plates.
     (e) Let the label plates cure. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the label plates cure.
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
Subtask 11-24-71-440-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Reactivation of the Thrust Reverser
   (1) Reactivate the thrust reverser (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-040).
