Installation of the V-Retainer Couplings and Seals at the Starter Air Duct
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
(3) On the overhead control and indicator panel 25VU, on the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) section:
(a) Make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton is released.
(b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the APU.
Subtask 80-12-49-010-051-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.

B. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) is in position on the left side of the engine.
4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) is in position on the left side of the engine.
Subtask 80-12-49-420-050-A
A. Installation of the V-Retainer Coupling and Seal between the Starter Air Duct and the Pylon
(1) Remove all the COVER - PROTECTION and the CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
(2) Lubricate the threads of the four bolts (6) and the two bolts (12) with LUBRICATING OIL TURBINE ENGINE SYNT BASE (Material No.CPNCL00062) .
(3) Put a new AIPC 80-12-49-01-080 SEAL (2) in position on the flange of the pylon duct elbow (1).
(4) Align the upper flange of the starter air duct (3) with the flange of the pylon duct elbow (1).
(5) Assemble the V-retainer coupling (4) around the two flanges and tighten the nut with your hand.
(6) If removed, install and tighten the two bolts (12) that attach the starter air duct (3) to the support bracket (11) with your hand.
(7) If removed, install and tighten the two bolts (6), clamp saddle (7) and clamp (5) to the support bracket (8) at two locations with your hand.
(8) TORQUE the two bolts (12) to between 1.40 and 1.20 m.daN (123.89 and 106.19 lbf.in )

(9) TORQUE the two bolts (17) to between 1.40 and 1.20 m.daN (123.89 and 106.19 lbf.in )
.
(10) TORQUE the four bolts (6) to between 0.76 and 0.64 m.daN (67.26 and 56.64 lbf.in )
.
(11) Torque the upper V-retainer coupling (4) as follows:
(a) TORQUE the nut on the V-retainer coupling (4) to between 1.41 and 1.30 m.daN (124.78 and 115.04 lbf.in )
.
(b) Lightly tap around the outer diameter of the V-retainer coupling (4) with a MALLET - PLASTIC. Do not hit the latch mechanism on the V-retainer coupling.
(c) TORQUE the nut on the V-retainer coupling (4) to between 1.41 and 1.30 m.daN (124.78 and 115.04 lbf.in )
a second time.
Subtask 80-12-49-420-051-A (1) Remove all the COVER - PROTECTION and the CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.

(8) TORQUE the two bolts (12) to between 1.40 and 1.20 m.daN (123.89 and 106.19 lbf.in )
. (9) TORQUE the two bolts (17) to between 1.40 and 1.20 m.daN (123.89 and 106.19 lbf.in )
. (10) TORQUE the four bolts (6) to between 0.76 and 0.64 m.daN (67.26 and 56.64 lbf.in )
. (11) Torque the upper V-retainer coupling (4) as follows:

a second time. B. Installation of the V-Retainer Coupling and Seal between the Starter Air Duct and the Starter Air Valve
(1) Remove all the COVER - PROTECTION and the CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
(2) Lubricate the threads of the four bolts (6), the two bolts (12), and the two bolts (17) with LUBRICATING OIL TURBINE ENGINE SYNT BASE (Material No.CPNCL00062) .
(3) Put a new AIPC 80-12-49-01-090 SEAL (15) in position on the flange of the starter air valve (14).
(4) Align the lower flange of the starter air duct (3) with the flange of the starter air valve (14).
(5) Assemble the V-retainer coupling (13) around the two flanges and tighten the nut with your hand.
(6) Loosely install the two bolts (17) that attach the starter air duct (3) on the support bracket (16).
(7) If removed, install and tighten the two bolts (12) that attach the starter air duct (3) to the support bracket (11) with your hand.
(8) If removed, install and tighten the two bolts (6), clamp saddle (7), and clamp (5) to the support bracket (8) at two locations with your hand.
(9) TORQUE the two bolts (12) to between 1.40 and 1.20 m.daN (123.89 and 106.19 lbf.in )

(10) TORQUE the two bolts (17) to between 1.40 and 1.20 m.daN (123.89 and 106.19 lbf.in )

(11) TORQUE the four bolts (6) to between 0.76 and 0.64 m.daN (67.26 and 56.64 lbf.in )

(12) Torque the lower V-retainer coupling (13) as follows:
(a) TORQUE the nut on the V-retainer coupling (13) to between 1.13 and 0.96 m.daN (100.00 and 84.96 lbf.in )

(b) Lightly tap around the outer diameter of the V-retainer coupling (13) with a MALLET - PLASTIC. Do not hit the latch mechanism on the V-retainer coupling.
(c) TORQUE the nut on the V-retainer coupling (13) to between 1.13 and 0.96 m.daN (100.00 and 84.96 lbf.in )
a second time.
5. Close-up(1) Remove all the COVER - PROTECTION and the CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
(2) Lubricate the threads of the four bolts (6), the two bolts (12), and the two bolts (17) with LUBRICATING OIL TURBINE ENGINE SYNT BASE (Material No.CPNCL00062) .
(3) Put a new AIPC 80-12-49-01-090 SEAL (15) in position on the flange of the starter air valve (14).
(4) Align the lower flange of the starter air duct (3) with the flange of the starter air valve (14).
(5) Assemble the V-retainer coupling (13) around the two flanges and tighten the nut with your hand.
(6) Loosely install the two bolts (17) that attach the starter air duct (3) on the support bracket (16).
(7) If removed, install and tighten the two bolts (12) that attach the starter air duct (3) to the support bracket (11) with your hand.
(8) If removed, install and tighten the two bolts (6), clamp saddle (7), and clamp (5) to the support bracket (8) at two locations with your hand.
(9) TORQUE the two bolts (12) to between 1.40 and 1.20 m.daN (123.89 and 106.19 lbf.in )

. (11) TORQUE the four bolts (6) to between 0.76 and 0.64 m.daN (67.26 and 56.64 lbf.in )

(a) TORQUE the nut on the V-retainer coupling (13) to between 1.13 and 0.96 m.daN (100.00 and 84.96 lbf.in )

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):

(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
