Removal of the Lubrication Unit

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)

4. Procedure
Subtask 79-21-05-010-055-A
A. Removal of the Lubrication Unit
WARNING: BEFORE YOU START THE PROCEDURE, PUT A WIDE DRIP PAN ON THE GROUND TO COLLECT THE OIL THAT CAN FLOW DURING THE OPERATION. OIL ON THE FLOOR CAN CAUSE YOU TO SLIP AND FALL.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE TUBES DO NOT TWIST WHEN YOU LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE TUBE CONNECTIONS. USE A SECOND WRENCH TO HOLD THE TUBE. IF THE TUBES TWIST, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THEM.
   (1) Drain the oil tank (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-808).
   (2) Drain the lubrication unit (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-803).
   (3) Remove the oil filter differential pressure sensor (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 79-35-05-000-801).
   (4) Remove the oil filter cartridge (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-05-000-803).
   (5) Disconnection of the HJ3A electrical harness (4) from the lubrication unit (1):
     (a) Remove the bolt (5) that attaches the clamp (6) on the bracket (7).
     (b) Disconnect the HJ3A electrical harness (4) along with the clamp (6) from the bracket (7).
   (6) Disconnection of the oil tube (8) from the lubrication unit (1):
     (a) Remove the four bolts (9) from the oil tube (8).
     (b) Disconnect the oil tube (8) from the lubrication unit (1).
     (c) Remove and discard the gasket (10) from the oil tube (8).
   (7) Disconnection of the oil tube (11) from the lubrication unit (1):
     (a) Remove the three bolts (12) that attach the bracket (7) to the oil tube (11).
     (b) Remove the bracket (7) from the oil tube (11).
     (c) Disconnect the oil tube (11) from the lubrication unit (1).
     (d) Remove and discard the gasket (13) from the oil tube (11).
   (8) Disconnection of the oil tube (14) from the lubrication unit (1):
     (a) Remove the four bolts (15) from the oil tube (14).
     (b) Disconnect the oil tube (14) from the lubrication unit (1).
     (c) Remove and discard the gasket (16) from the oil tube (14).
   (9) Disconnection of the oil tube (17) from the lubrication unit (1):
     (a) Loosen the coupling nut (18) of the oil tube (17).
     (b) Disconnect the oil tube (17) from the lubrication unit (1).
   (10) Disconnection of the oil tube (19) from the lubrication unit (1):
     (a) Remove the three bolts (20) from the oil tube (19).
     (b) Disconnect the oil tube (19) from the lubrication unit (1).
     (c) Remove and discard the gasket (21) from the oil tube (19).
   (11) Disconnection of the oil tube (22) from the lubrication unit (1):
     (a) Remove the four bolts (23) from the oil tube (22).
     (b) Disconnect the oil tube (22) from the lubrication unit (1).
     (c) Remove and discard the gasket (24) from the oil tube (22).
   (12) Disconnection of the oil tube (25) from the lubrication unit (1):
     (a) Remove the four bolts (26) from the oil tube (25).
     (b) Disconnect the oil tube (25) from the lubrication unit (1).
     (c) Remove and discard the gasket (27) from the oil tube (25).
   (13) Remove the container.
   (14) Removal of the lubrication unit (1) from the Accessory GearBox (AGB) input pad (32):
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE THE LUBRICATION UNIT. THE LUBRICATION UNIT WEIGHS 28.4 LBS (12.9 KG). INJURIES TO PERSONS CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Install the 956A7618 FIXTURE, REMOVE /INSTALL - LUBRICATION UNIT on the 956A7649 JACK, REMOVE/INSTALL - BOTTOM LRU.
     (b) Move the 956A7618 FIXTURE, REMOVE /INSTALL - LUBRICATION UNIT to the correct position.
     (c) Install the 956A7618 FIXTURE, REMOVE /INSTALL - LUBRICATION UNIT on the lubrication unit (1).
     (d) Remove the seven bolts (28) and the seven washers (34) that attach the lubrication unit (1) to the AGB input pad (32).
     (e) Disengage the drive shaft (29):
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT STAYS VERTICAL TO THE AGB MOUNTING FLANGE DURING REMOVAL. DO NOT LET THE DRIVE SHAFT HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE AGB. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
       1 Pull carefully the lubrication unit (1) rearward until the splines of the drive shaft (29) disengage from the AGB (3).
NOTE: The splined sleeve (35) can stay on the drive shaft (29) when the lubrication unit (1) is removed from the AGB.
     (f) Remove the splined sleeve (35) from the drive shaft (29).
CAUTION: IF THERE IS AN O-RING ON THE SPLINED SLEEVE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT, AND CONTACT AIRBUS BEFORE THE RETURN-TO-SERVICE OF THE AIRCRAFT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE ACCESSORY GEARBOX (AGB) AND INTEGRATED DRIVE GENERATOR (IDG) CAN OCCUR.
     (g) Inspect the splined sleeve (35) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-63-12-210-801).
     (h) Lightly coat the splined sleeve (35) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
     (i) If the lubrication unit (1) is not reinstalled, install the inspected splined sleeve (35) into the AGB IDG spur (36).
     (j) Remove and discard the O-ring (30) from the groove of the lubrication unit (1).
     (k) Remove and discard the O-ring (31) from the groove of the drive shaft (29).
     (l) Remove and discard the O-ring (33) from the groove of AGB scavenge inlet port.
     (m) Remove the lubrication unit (1) from the 956A7618 FIXTURE, REMOVE /INSTALL - LUBRICATION UNIT.
   (15) Install the COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION on all the open ports, open tubes, open hoses and the disconnected connectors.
