Installation of the Thrust Reverser Opening Tubes and Manifold
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
1. Reason for the JobThis task supplies the information to install the thrust reverser opening actuator tubes and manifold. The procedure in this task is the same for both the left and the right thrust reverser halves.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 78-36-49-010-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.

B. Get Access

C. Make sure that the thrust reverser Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) is deactivated (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).
Subtask 78-36-49-630-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL D. Remove the covers/caps/plugs from all of the openings.
4. ProcedureSubtask 78-36-49-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Hydraulic Hose
(1) Put the hydraulic hose (31) into the flexible hose cover (42).
(2) Put the hydraulic hose (31) with the flexible hose cover (42) onto the opening actuator (32) and put the hose cover elbow (38) over the pre-cooler port (37).
(3) Separate the halves of the upper end cover (44) at its flex-hinge and install the hose nut (43) on the opening actuator (32).
(4) Raise the lower end cover (28) at its flex hinge and hand-tighten the hose nut (29) on the elbow (30).
(5) Put the clamp (53) on the flexible hose cover (42).
(6) Attach the clamp (53) to the upper bumper with the washer (54) and the nut (55).
(7) Tighten the nut (55).
(8) Put the other end of the elbow (30) through the thrust reverser frame and tighten the nut (52) with your hand.
(9) Install the clamp (34), screw (33), washer (35) and nut (36) that attach the hose cover elbow (38) to the pre-cooler port (37).
(10) Install the clamp (41), screws (40) and washers (39) that attach the flexible hose cover (42) to the C-duct near the pre-cooler.
(11) TORQUE the hose nuts (29) to between 120 and 100 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.13 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
(a) Do not torque the hose nut (43) at this step.
(12) TORQUE the jam nut (52) on the elbow (30) (at the thrust reverser frame) to between 120 and 110 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.24 m.daN )

(13) TORQUE the nut (55) to between 25 and 20 lbf.in (0.28 and 0.23 m.daN )
.
(14) Install the screw (26) that attaches the lower end cover (28) to the C-duct.
Subtask 78-36-49-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Put the hydraulic hose (31) into the flexible hose cover (42).
(2) Put the hydraulic hose (31) with the flexible hose cover (42) onto the opening actuator (32) and put the hose cover elbow (38) over the pre-cooler port (37).
(3) Separate the halves of the upper end cover (44) at its flex-hinge and install the hose nut (43) on the opening actuator (32).
(4) Raise the lower end cover (28) at its flex hinge and hand-tighten the hose nut (29) on the elbow (30).
(5) Put the clamp (53) on the flexible hose cover (42).
(6) Attach the clamp (53) to the upper bumper with the washer (54) and the nut (55).
(7) Tighten the nut (55).
(8) Put the other end of the elbow (30) through the thrust reverser frame and tighten the nut (52) with your hand.
(9) Install the clamp (34), screw (33), washer (35) and nut (36) that attach the hose cover elbow (38) to the pre-cooler port (37).
(10) Install the clamp (41), screws (40) and washers (39) that attach the flexible hose cover (42) to the C-duct near the pre-cooler.
(11) TORQUE the hose nuts (29) to between 120 and 100 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.13 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013). (a) Do not torque the hose nut (43) at this step.
(12) TORQUE the jam nut (52) on the elbow (30) (at the thrust reverser frame) to between 120 and 110 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.24 m.daN )
. (13) TORQUE the nut (55) to between 25 and 20 lbf.in (0.28 and 0.23 m.daN )
. (14) Install the screw (26) that attaches the lower end cover (28) to the C-duct.
B. Install the upper hydraulic tube (18)
(1) Put the upper hydraulic tube (18) in to position (Detail G).
(2) Install the upper tube nut (19) of the upper hydraulic tube (18) on to the elbow (30).
(3) Install the lower tube nut (19) of the upper hydraulic tube (18) on to the union (Detail D).
(4) Install the clamps (24), screws (21), washers (22) and nuts (17) that attach the upper hydraulic tube (18) to the brackets (25) and the C-duct (Detail E).
(5) TORQUE the tube nuts (19) on both ends of the upper hydraulic tube (18) to between 145 and 135 lbf.in (1.64 and 1.53 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
Subtask 78-36-49-420-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Put the upper hydraulic tube (18) in to position (Detail G).
(2) Install the upper tube nut (19) of the upper hydraulic tube (18) on to the elbow (30).
(3) Install the lower tube nut (19) of the upper hydraulic tube (18) on to the union (Detail D).
(4) Install the clamps (24), screws (21), washers (22) and nuts (17) that attach the upper hydraulic tube (18) to the brackets (25) and the C-duct (Detail E).
(5) TORQUE the tube nuts (19) on both ends of the upper hydraulic tube (18) to between 145 and 135 lbf.in (1.64 and 1.53 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013). C. Install the lower hydraulic tube (7)
(1) Put the lower hydraulic tube (7) in to position.
(2) Connect the upper tube nut (20) of the lower hydraulic tube (7) to the union. Do not torque the tube nut at this step.
(3) Install the clamp (24), screw (21) and washer (22) that attach the lower hydraulic tube (7) to the bracket (23) above the non-locking actuator.
(4) Remove the nuts (17), washers (16), spacers (14), screws (15) and clamps (13) that support the electrical harness.
(5) Attach the electrical harness and the lower hydraulic tube (7) to the brackets on both sides of the non-locking actuator with screws (15), washers (16), spacers (14), clamps (13) and nuts (17).
(6) Put the lower hydraulic tube (7) in to position on the two brackets (9) (Detail C).
(7) Install the two clamps (10), screws (12) and washers (11).
(8) TORQUE the tube nut (20) on the upper end of the lower hydraulic tube (7) to between 145 and 135 lbf.in (1.64 and 1.53 m.daN )

Subtask 78-36-49-420-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Put the lower hydraulic tube (7) in to position.
(2) Connect the upper tube nut (20) of the lower hydraulic tube (7) to the union. Do not torque the tube nut at this step.
(3) Install the clamp (24), screw (21) and washer (22) that attach the lower hydraulic tube (7) to the bracket (23) above the non-locking actuator.
(4) Remove the nuts (17), washers (16), spacers (14), screws (15) and clamps (13) that support the electrical harness.
(5) Attach the electrical harness and the lower hydraulic tube (7) to the brackets on both sides of the non-locking actuator with screws (15), washers (16), spacers (14), clamps (13) and nuts (17).
(6) Put the lower hydraulic tube (7) in to position on the two brackets (9) (Detail C).
(7) Install the two clamps (10), screws (12) and washers (11).
(8) TORQUE the tube nut (20) on the upper end of the lower hydraulic tube (7) to between 145 and 135 lbf.in (1.64 and 1.53 m.daN )

SBN 78-0021: Rework of thrust reverser wiring harness installation
(1) Attach the electrical harness to the lower hydraulic tube (7) near the non-locking actuator with the clamps (48), screw (50), washer (49) and nut (51).

SBN 78-0021: Rework of thrust reverser wiring harness installation
(1) Attach the electrical harness to the lower hydraulic tube (7) near the non-locking actuator with the clamps (48), screw (50), washer (49) and nut (51).
E. Install the opening actuator manifold (3) (Detail B)
(1) Install the new AIPC 78-36-49-80-060 PACKING (4) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-13-911-010) on to the union (5).
(2) Install the union (5) with the packing (4) in to the opening on the actuator manifold (3).
(3) TORQUE the union (5) to between 135 and 125 lbf.in (1.53 and 1.41 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
(4) Put the manifold (3) in to position on the bracket (8).
(5) Connect the lower tube nut (6) of the lower hydraulic tube (7) to the union (5). Do not torque the tube nut (6) at this step.
(6) Install the two bolts (1) and two washers (2) that attach the manifold (3) to the support bracket (8).
(7) TORQUE the bolts (1) to between 70 and 63 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.71 m.daN )

(8) TORQUE the tube nut (6) to between 120 and 100 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.13 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
Subtask 78-36-49-870-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Install the new AIPC 78-36-49-80-060 PACKING (4) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-13-911-010) on to the union (5).
(2) Install the union (5) with the packing (4) in to the opening on the actuator manifold (3).
(3) TORQUE the union (5) to between 135 and 125 lbf.in (1.53 and 1.41 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013). (4) Put the manifold (3) in to position on the bracket (8).
(5) Connect the lower tube nut (6) of the lower hydraulic tube (7) to the union (5). Do not torque the tube nut (6) at this step.
(6) Install the two bolts (1) and two washers (2) that attach the manifold (3) to the support bracket (8).
(7) TORQUE the bolts (1) to between 70 and 63 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.71 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013). (8) TORQUE the tube nut (6) to between 120 and 100 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.13 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013). F. Bleed the opening actuator system
(2) Connect the IAE1N20009 PUMP HYDRAULIC UNIT-REVERSER C-DUCT to the manifold (3).
(3) Operate the IAE1N20009 PUMP HYDRAULIC UNIT-REVERSER C-DUCT until engine oil comes out of the end of the hose (31).
(4) Connect the hose nut (43) to the opening actuator (32).
(5) Before you torque the hose nut (43):
(a) Make sure that the elbow of hydraulic hose (31) is set at 119 +4 deg or -4 deg (119.0000 +4.0000 deg or -4.0000 deg) on the left half thrust reverser and 120 +5 deg or -5 deg (120.0000 +5.0000 deg or -5.0000 deg) on the right half thrust reverser. See detail K, sheet 5 of the figure
(6) TORQUE the hose nut (43) to between 120 and 100 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.13 m.daN )

(7) Remove the IAE1N20009 PUMP HYDRAULIC UNIT-REVERSER C-DUCT from the manifold (3).
Subtask 78-36-49-420-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT ALL TRAPPED AIR IS BLED FROM THE OPENING ACTUATOR SYSTEM. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD CAUSE THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES TO CLOSE TOO FAST AND CAUSE INJURY.
CAUTION:
USE ONLY ENGINE OIL TO FILL THE HAND PUMP AND OPENING ACTUATOR SYSTEM.
(1) Disconnect the hose nut (43) from the opening actuator (32). (2) Connect the IAE1N20009 PUMP HYDRAULIC UNIT-REVERSER C-DUCT to the manifold (3).
(3) Operate the IAE1N20009 PUMP HYDRAULIC UNIT-REVERSER C-DUCT until engine oil comes out of the end of the hose (31).
(4) Connect the hose nut (43) to the opening actuator (32).
(5) Before you torque the hose nut (43):
(a) Make sure that the elbow of hydraulic hose (31) is set at 119 +4 deg or -4 deg (119.0000 +4.0000 deg or -4.0000 deg) on the left half thrust reverser and 120 +5 deg or -5 deg (120.0000 +5.0000 deg or -5.0000 deg) on the right half thrust reverser. See detail K, sheet 5 of the figure
(6) TORQUE the hose nut (43) to between 120 and 100 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.13 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013). (7) Remove the IAE1N20009 PUMP HYDRAULIC UNIT-REVERSER C-DUCT from the manifold (3).
G. Attach the flexible hose upper end cover to the opening actuator
(1) Position the end covers (44) of the hose half-covers as close as possible to the actuator to ease installation of the hose covers. Ensure the half-covers have the same orientation as the hydraulic hose elbow (31). See detail J and K, sheet 5 of the figure
(2) Close the upper end cover (44) and install the clamp (47), screw (48), washer (46) and nut (45) that attach the upper end to the opening actuator (32) at Detail J.

5. Close-up(1) Position the end covers (44) of the hose half-covers as close as possible to the actuator to ease installation of the hose covers. Ensure the half-covers have the same orientation as the hydraulic hose elbow (31). See detail J and K, sheet 5 of the figure
(2) Close the upper end cover (44) and install the clamp (47), screw (48), washer (46) and nut (45) that attach the upper end to the opening actuator (32) at Detail J.
NOTE: Pull hose close to C-Duct wall before tightening down clamps.
(3) TORQUE the nut (45) to between 25 and 20 lbf.in (0.28 and 0.23 m.daN )

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the thrust reverser halves (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-410-010):
