3. Job Set-up
Subtask 78-36-42-860-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU, make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
   (3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) is in position.

B. Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):

C. Make sure that the thrust reverser is unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041).
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-36-42-210-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Perform preparation before installation as follows:
   (1) Make sure that the parts are clean and damage free, especially examine for dents and cracks.
   (2) If necessary, clean the parts with stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) or acetone (Material No.CP1039) or ardrox 552 (Material No.CP2559) or turco ind 79 (Material No.CP2560) or mag-chem tecksol (Material No.CP2566) or degreasol 99 R (Material No.CP2584) or mag-chem skysol (Material No.CP2656) and dry with clean compressed air.

B. Installation of the Adaptor Ring Assembly
   (1) Install the lower fittings as follows:

     (a) Attach the stop fitting to the fan frame with the bolts, the screws, the washers and the nuts.
     (b) TORQUE the nuts to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN ) T.
     (c) Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the nuts when you have checked their torques.
   (2) Install the lower struts as follows:

     (a) Apply RTV 106 (Material No.CP2267) on the lower stop fittings, the lower channel bracket and on the tube bundle box.
     (b) Attach the lower struts to the fan frame with the screws.
     (c) TORQUE the screws to between 53 and 45 lbf.in (0.60 and 0.51 m.daN ) T.
     (d) Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the screws when you have checked their torques.
   (3) Install the inner flanges as follows:

F Adaptor Ring Assembly ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Apply RTV 106 (Material No.CP2267) on the tube bundle box and between the splice assembly and inner flange.
     (b) Attach the splice assemblies to the tube bundle box with the screws.
     (c) TORQUE the screws to between 53 and 45 lbf.in (0.60 and 0.51 m.daN ) T.
     (d) Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the screws when you have checked their torques.
     (e) Attach the inner flanges with the bolts and the washers.
     (f) TORQUE the bolts on the inner flange to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN ) T.
     (g) Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the bolts when you have checked their torques.
     (h) Apply a bead of RTV 106 (Material No.CP2267) at the junction of the lower struts with the lower strut engine.
   (4) Install the upper forward seal fitting as follows:

     (a) Attach the upper forward seal fitting with the screws.
     (b) TORQUE the screws to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN ) T.
     (c) Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the screws when you have checked their torques.
     (d) Apply a bead of RTV 106 (Material No.CP2267) between the upper forward seal fitting and the inner flanges.
   (5) Install the left and right struts as follows:

F Adaptor Ring Assembly ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Attach the left and right struts with the bolts and washers.
     (b) TORQUE the bolts to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN ) T.
     (c) Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the bolts when you have checked their torques.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (d) Safety the bolts with CP8001safetywire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia or CP8002safetywire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia.
   (6) Install the upper outer seal fitting as follows:

F Adaptor Ring Assembly ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Attach the upper outer seal fitting with the screws, the bolts and the washers.
     (b) TORQUE the bolts and screws to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN ) T.
     (c) Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the bolts and screws when you have checked their torques.
   (7) Install the adaptor ring flanges as follows:

NOTE: In order to retain the datum plane of the outer flange aft face, no more than three outer flange segments maximum may be replaced at any one time. No consecutive part changes are allowed.
NOTE: If more than three outer flange segments are replaced per half thrust reverser, replace all five outer flange segments.
     (a) Apply RTV 106 (Material No.CP2267) between the lower stops and the lower stops and the outer flanges No. 9 and No. 10.
     (b) Attach the adaptor ring flanges with the bolts, the washers and the nuts as follows:
F Outer Flange Adjustment ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
       1 Wet install the adaptor ring flange bolts with Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) .
         a Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) on the shank of the bolts.
CAUTION: TO PREVENT MISMATCH, MAKE SURE THE OUTER FLANGE IS HELD TIGHTLY AGAINST THE ENGINE FLANGE. NO MISMATCH IS ALLOWED OR DAMAGE MAY OCCUR.
     (c) Tightening of the nuts.
       1 Do not install bolts in holes 1, 2, 4, and 5 of both sides when you install the adaptor ring flanges.
       2 Tighten the nuts, checking the gaps between the engine flange and the adaptor ring flanges.
F Outer Flange Adjustment ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
NOTE: The maximum gap given relates to possible mismatch defect between the fan flange and adaptor ring flange.
NOTE: You can use the HIX3013-0G ALIGNMENT TOOL - OUTER FLANGE adaptor ring flange locator tool to secure the outer flange during adjustment.
F Outer Flange Locator Tool ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (d) TORQUE the adaptor ring flange nuts to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN ) T.
     (e) Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the nuts when you have checked their torques.
     (f) Apply a bead of RTV 106 (Material No.CP2267) between the upper outer seal fitting and the outer flanges No. 1 and No. 2.
     (g) Install the screws and nuts that attach the aft acoustical panel on the outer flange as follows:

       1 Apply a layer of vaseline (Material No.CP5070) on the threads of the screws (10).
       2 Attach the aft acoustical panel to the outer flange with the screws (10) and the nuts (20).
       3 TORQUE the nuts (20) to between 111.3 and 100.7 lbf.in (1.26 and 1.14 m.daN ) T.
       4 Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the nuts when you have checked their torques.
   (8) Install the upper strut and upper channel bracket as follows:

     (a) Attach the channel bracket with the bolts and the washers.
     (b) TORQUE the bolts to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN ) T.
     (c) Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the bolts when you have checked their torques.
     (d) Attach the upper strut with the screws.
     (e) TORQUE the screws to between 53 and 45 lbf.in (0.60 and 0.51 m.daN ) T.
     (f) Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the screws when you have checked their torques.
   (9) Install the hold-open rods and attachment fitting as follows:

     (a) Install the lower bracket.
       1 Apply a thin layer of molykote G rapid plus (Material No.CP2104) on the crankpin locator.
       2 Install the crankpin between the two cheeks.
       3 Install the three spacers, the washers, the bolts and the nuts.
       4 TORQUE the nuts to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN ) T.
       5 Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the nuts when you have checked their torques.
       6 Attach the lower bracket to the adaptor ring flange with the bolts, the washers and the nuts.
       7 TORQUE the nuts to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN ) T.
       8 Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the nuts when you have checked their torques.
     (b) Install the hold-open rod and the upper bracket on the adaptor ring flange.
       1 Attach the upper bracket to the adaptor ring flange with the bolts, the washers and the nuts.
       2 TORQUE the nuts to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN ) T.
       3 Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.
CP2245) on the nuts when you have checked their torques.
     (c) Install and attach the hold-open rod to the lower bracket with the quick release pin.
5. Close-up

A. Install the thrust reverser half doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-11-400-002).

   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
