A. Adjustment of the Thrust Reverser Half Door Latches
(1) Open the four half door latches.
(2) At the two forward latches, remove the screws and the locking washers.
(3) Loosen the tension nuts.
(4) At the center latch, remove the screw and the locking washer.
(5) Loosen the tension nut.
(6) At the aft latch, remove the screw and the locking washer.
(7) Loosen the tension nut.
(8) Make sure the latch hooks are fully engaged in each stirrup. Do not close the latch handles.
(9) TORQUE each tension nut, in sequence from front to rear to between 99 and 81 lbf.in (1.12 and 0.92 m.daN )
.
(10) After the last tension nut has been torqued, do step (9) again.
(11) Do a check.
1 Make sure the surface of the wrenching flat of each centering pin fully touches the surface of each bushing. There should be no space between the surface of the centering pin and the bushing.
2 If the surface of the wrenching flat on the centering pin is not fully against the bushing at each location, do a torque of the latch tension nuts. (refer to step (9) above).
3 If one or two of the centering pins on the forward latch fitting is (are) not in full contact with the bushing, then examine the interface between the C-duct and the engine and adjust the thrust reverser J-ring (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-42-820-002).
(12) At the forward latches, put the locking washers on the tension nuts and install the screws.
(13) At the center latch, put the locking washer on the tension nut and install the screw.
(14) At the aft latch, put the locking washer on the tension nut and install the screw.
(15) TORQUE the screws to between 40 and 30 lbf.in (0.45 and 0.34 m.daN )
.
(16) Close and lock the thrust reverser half door latches (four locations).
Subtask 78-36-41-820-060-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Open the four half door latches.
CAUTION:
ALL LOCATING PINS MUST BE IN FULL CONTACT WITH BUSHINGS OR DAMAGE COULD OCCUR TO REVERSER.
(a) Do a check of the centering pins and bushings located on both sides of the door latches.
B. Alternate Adjustment of the Thrust Reverser Latches
(1) Open the forward latch.
(2) Remove the screws that attach the locking washers.
(3) Remove the locking washers.
(4) Hand tighten the latch tension nut and put it in a position which permits the installation of the locking washer.
(5) Measure the force on the latch handle tip with the DYNAMOMETER 14 TO 19 DAN ( 30.27 TO 41.09 LBF) - PUSH which is necessary to lock it.
(6) Make sure that the force is between 31.5 lbf (14.01 daN) and 42.7 lbf (18.99 daN).
(7) If the recorded force is not within tolerances turn the latch tension nut to obtain the force indicated.
(9) Torque the screw to between 45 and 35 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.40 m.daN )
.
(10) Adjust the three other latches with same procedures as in step 1 through step 9.
(11) Do a check of each latch from the front to the rear.
(12) Make sure that the applied force on the latch handle tip is between 31.5 lbf (14.01 daN) and 42.7 lbf (18.99 daN).
5. Close-up(1) Open the forward latch.
NOTE: Each one twelfth of a turn of the tension nut will keep the set position of the nut needed for the installation of the locking washer.
(8) Install the locking washer and screw which attach the latch tension nut.(9) Torque the screw to between 45 and 35 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.40 m.daN )
.(10) Adjust the three other latches with same procedures as in step 1 through step 9.
(11) Do a check of each latch from the front to the rear.
(12) Make sure that the applied force on the latch handle tip is between 31.5 lbf (14.01 daN) and 42.7 lbf (18.99 daN).
