A. Safety Precautions
(1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).
(a) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap and slat control lever.
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the flaps and the slats.
Subtask 78-36-00-010-113-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).
CAUTION:
DO NOT OPEN THE FAN COWL IF THE WING LEADING EDGE SLATS ARE EXTENDED. DAMAGE TO THE FAN COWL, WING LEADING EDGE SLATS AND WING CAN OCCUR.
(2) On the ECAM upper display-unit, make sure that the slats are fully retracted.(a) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap and slat control lever.
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the flaps and the slats.
B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Ground Maintenance
(2) Make sure that the thrust-reverser translating sleeves are retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-803).
4. ProcedureWARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).(2) Make sure that the thrust-reverser translating sleeves are retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-803).
WARNING:
DO NOT KEEP OPEN A THRUST REVERSER DOOR WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 46 MPH (74.0 KM/H) OR MORE. IF THE WIND MOVES THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR, INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL IF YOU OPEN/CLOSE A THRUST REVERSER DOOR WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 23 MPH (37 KM/H) OR MORE. IF THE WIND MOVES THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR, INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
WARNING:
WHEN YOU OPEN OR CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOORS, MAKE SURE THAT THE AREA BELOW AND BETWEEN THE DOORS IS CLEAR. IF THE DOORS CLOSE SUDDENLY, INJURY TO PERSONS CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
DO NOT OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES IF THE WING LEADING EDGE SLATS ARE EXTENDED. DAMAGE TO THE THRUST REVERSER, WING LEADING EDGE SLATS AND WING CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
RETRACT THE TRANSLATING SLEEVE BEFORE YOU OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN HIT THE WING AND CAUSE DAMAGE.
NOTE: You must not open the thrust reverser cowl-doors at the same time. The thrust reverser cowl-doors must be opened one after the other.
Subtask 78-36-00-010-112-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Removal of the Thrust Reverser Door Opening System (DOS) Actuator
(1) Remove the DOS actuator from the thrust reverser door (1) or (8) that you will open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-02-000-801).
Subtask 78-36-00-010-139-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the DOS actuator from the thrust reverser door (1) or (8) that you will open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-02-000-801).
B. Opening of the Closure Assist Assembly
(1) Engage the closure assist assembly (11). If the closure assist assembly (11) is damaged or missing, go to step 4.B.(2).
(b) Open the clip assembly on the stow bracket (10). Move the closure assist assembly (11) out of the stow bracket (10).
(c) Hold the free rod end of the closure assist assembly (11) which is not attached to the thrust reverser door so that it does not move.
(d) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (11) to make it longer.
1 Increase the length until the rod end can be attached to the closure assist hook (13) on the right thrust reverser door (1).
2 Make sure that approximately an equal amount of thread shows on each side of the barrel of the closure assist assembly (11).
(e) Engage the closure assist assembly (11) in the closure assist hook (13).
1 Open the latches in the sequence shown in Para. 4.C.
(a) Have one person push the left thrust reverser door (8).
(b) Have another person push the right thrust reverser door (1).
(c) Push the thrust reverser doors together until you can open the L1A latch (2) at the bottom of the doors.
Subtask 78-36-00-010-114-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Engage the closure assist assembly (11). If the closure assist assembly (11) is damaged or missing, go to step 4.B.(2).
NOTE: The closure assist assembly (11) only helps to open or close the L1A latch (2) and the L1B latch (3). It is not necessary to use the closure assist assembly (11) if you can open and close these latches without it.
CAUTION:
DISENGAGE THE CLOSURE ASSIST FITTING FROM THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY BEFORE YOU DISENGAGE THE CLIP ASSEMBLY ON THE STOW BRACKET. IF YOU DISENGAGE THE CLIP ASSEMBLY ON THE STOW BRACKET FIRST, DAMAGE TO THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY CAN OCCUR.
(a) Move the hinged panel on the closure assist fitting (12) to move the spring clip off of the closure assist assembly (11).(b) Open the clip assembly on the stow bracket (10). Move the closure assist assembly (11) out of the stow bracket (10).
(c) Hold the free rod end of the closure assist assembly (11) which is not attached to the thrust reverser door so that it does not move.
(d) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (11) to make it longer.
1 Increase the length until the rod end can be attached to the closure assist hook (13) on the right thrust reverser door (1).
2 Make sure that approximately an equal amount of thread shows on each side of the barrel of the closure assist assembly (11).
(e) Engage the closure assist assembly (11) in the closure assist hook (13).
CAUTION:
DO NOT CONTINUE TO TURN THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY IF IT STOPS. THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY HAS A STOP TO MAKE SURE THE TWO THRUST REVERSERS DO NOT HIT EACH OTHER. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(f) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (11) until you can easily open the L1A latch (2) and the L1B latch (3).1 Open the latches in the sequence shown in Para. 4.C.
NOTE: If you cannot open another latch, you can tighten the closure assist assembly (11) more to remove the force on that latch.
(2) If the closure assist assembly (11) is damaged or missing, do the following:(a) Have one person push the left thrust reverser door (8).
(b) Have another person push the right thrust reverser door (1).
(c) Push the thrust reverser doors together until you can open the L1A latch (2) at the bottom of the doors.
C. Opening of the Latches
(2) Push the latch trigger to release the L4 latch (7) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L4 latch (7).
(3) Push the latch trigger to release the L3 latch (6) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L3 latch (6).
(5) Push the latch trigger to release the L2 latch (5) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L2 latch (5).
(6) Push the latch trigger to release the L1B latch (3) and L1A latch (2) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L1B latch (3) and L1A latch (2).
Subtask 78-36-00-410-133-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
ALWAYS OPEN/CLOSE THE LATCHES ON THE THRUST REVERSER IN THE SEQUENCE THAT FOLLOWS. YOU CAN DAMAGE THE THRUST REVERSER IF YOU DO NOT OPEN/CLOSE THE LATCHES IN THE CORRECT SEQUENCE.
(1) Push the latch trigger to release the L5 latch (9) on the core cowl. Open the L5 latch (9). (2) Push the latch trigger to release the L4 latch (7) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L4 latch (7).
(3) Push the latch trigger to release the L3 latch (6) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L3 latch (6).
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THE BIFURCATION LATCH SYSTEM HANDLE IS COOL TO THE TOUCH BEFORE YOU OPEN IT, OR USE INSULATION TO PROTECT YOUR HAND. THE BIFURCATION LATCH SYSTEM HANDLE CAN BE HOT.
(4) Push the latch trigger to release the bifurcation latch system handle (4) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the bifurcation latch system handle (4). (5) Push the latch trigger to release the L2 latch (5) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L2 latch (5).
(6) Push the latch trigger to release the L1B latch (3) and L1A latch (2) on the bottom of the thrust reverser doors. Open the L1B latch (3) and L1A latch (2).
D. Closing of the Closure Assist Assembly
(a) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (11) to make it longer.
1 Increase the length of the closure assist assembly (11) until the rod end disengages from the closure assist hook (13).
(b) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (11) to make it shorter.
1 Decrease the length of the closure assist assembly (11) until the rod end fits into the hole in the stow bracket (10).
(c) Put the closure assist assembly (11) in the stow bracket (10).
1 Close the clip assembly on the stow bracket (10) to safety the closure assist assembly (11).
(d) Move the hinged panel on the closure assist fitting (12) to put the spring clip on the closure assist assembly (11).
Subtask 78-36-00-010-115-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
PUT THE CLOSURE ASSIST FITTING IN ITS STOWED POSITION WHEN THE CLOSURE ASSIST ASSEMBLY IS NOT IN USE. IF YOU LET THE CLOSURE ASSIST FITTING HANG, OTHER COMPONENTS CAN HIT IT AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO IT.
(1) If you engaged the closure assist assembly (11), put the closure assist assembly (11) in its stowed position.(a) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (11) to make it longer.
1 Increase the length of the closure assist assembly (11) until the rod end disengages from the closure assist hook (13).
(b) Turn the barrel of the closure assist assembly (11) to make it shorter.
1 Decrease the length of the closure assist assembly (11) until the rod end fits into the hole in the stow bracket (10).
(c) Put the closure assist assembly (11) in the stow bracket (10).
1 Close the clip assembly on the stow bracket (10) to safety the closure assist assembly (11).
(d) Move the hinged panel on the closure assist fitting (12) to put the spring clip on the closure assist assembly (11).
NOTE: The hinged panel is a red color so that it will be seen if it is not correctly stowed.
E. Opening of the Left Thrust-Reverser Door

If the hold open rod is missing or damaged on the left thrust-reverser door (8):
1 You can use the 636-3000-10GSE TR HOLD OPEN STRUT TO PYLON) as an alternative to the hold open rod, with the limitations of AOL A320NEO-0021-1.
2 Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer of the 636-3000-10GSE TR HOLD OPEN STRUT TO PYLON.

(2) Extension of the hold open rod.
(b) Slowly lower the hold open rod (15) away from the left thrust-reverser door (8).
(3) Installation of the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING.
(a) For configuration 1 (636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING Rev. A), attach the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING as follows:
1 Attach the forward latch-beam bracket and the aft latch-beam bracket to the bottom of the left thrust-reverser door (8). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
2 Attach the -601-1 round tube, the -601-2 round tube and the two -604 stop assemblies through the lower loop of the -701 strap assembly. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
3 Attach the -601-1 round tube on the forward latch-beam bracket and the aft latch-beam bracket. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
4 Attach the -901 shield mat on the left thrust-reverser door (8). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
5 Attach the -101-2 hand chain hoist to the CRANE 500 KG (1100 LB) or equivalent.
6 Attach the -701 strap assembly to the -101-2 hand chain hoist. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
(b) For configuration 2, (636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING Rev. B and after), attach the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING as follows:
1 Attach the -1002 forward latch-beam bracket and the -1003 aft latch-beam bracket to the bottom of the left thrust-reverser door (8). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
2 Insert the eye end of the -1001 strap assembly into the hoist shackle on the -1002 forward latch-beam bracket.
3 Insert the eye end of the -1001 strap assembly into the hoist shackle on the -1003 aft latch-beam bracket.
4 Put the felt pad around the master-link on the -1001 strap assembly. Make sure that the master-link cannot touch the left thrust-reverser door (8). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
5 Attach the -901 shield mat on the left thrust-reverser door (8). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
6 Attach the -101-2 hand chain hoist to the CRANE 500 KG (1100 LB) or equivalent.
7 Attach the -1001 strap assembly to the -101-2 hand chain hoist. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
(a) Make sure that you can see the green band on the slide on the hold open rod (15).
(6) Lower the left thrust-reverser door (8) with the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING until its weight is on the hold open rod (15).
(7) Make sure that you can see the green band on the slide on hold open rod (15).
Subtask 78-36-00-010-116-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
DO NOT CONNECT THE HOLD OPEN ROD TO THE ENGINE FAN CASE BEFORE YOU FULLY OPEN THE LEFT THRUST REVERSER DOOR. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(1) Release the top end of the hold open rod (15) from the hold-open rod bolt (14). (a) PRE SB GRAA320NEO-G-78-36-0001-00001-930A-C
If the hold open rod is missing or damaged on the left thrust-reverser door (8):
1 You can use the 636-3000-10GSE TR HOLD OPEN STRUT TO PYLON) as an alternative to the hold open rod, with the limitations of AOL A320NEO-0021-1.
2 Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer of the 636-3000-10GSE TR HOLD OPEN STRUT TO PYLON.

(2) Extension of the hold open rod.
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET THE HOLD OPEN ROD FALL INTO THE POSITION AWAY FROM THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HARDWARE.
(a) Extend the hold open rod (15) until it is fully extended and locked. (b) Slowly lower the hold open rod (15) away from the left thrust-reverser door (8).
(3) Installation of the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING.
(a) For configuration 1 (636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING Rev. A), attach the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING as follows:
1 Attach the forward latch-beam bracket and the aft latch-beam bracket to the bottom of the left thrust-reverser door (8). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
2 Attach the -601-1 round tube, the -601-2 round tube and the two -604 stop assemblies through the lower loop of the -701 strap assembly. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
3 Attach the -601-1 round tube on the forward latch-beam bracket and the aft latch-beam bracket. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
4 Attach the -901 shield mat on the left thrust-reverser door (8). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
5 Attach the -101-2 hand chain hoist to the CRANE 500 KG (1100 LB) or equivalent.
6 Attach the -701 strap assembly to the -101-2 hand chain hoist. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
(b) For configuration 2, (636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING Rev. B and after), attach the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING as follows:
1 Attach the -1002 forward latch-beam bracket and the -1003 aft latch-beam bracket to the bottom of the left thrust-reverser door (8). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
2 Insert the eye end of the -1001 strap assembly into the hoist shackle on the -1002 forward latch-beam bracket.
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.

7 Attach the -1001 strap assembly to the -101-2 hand chain hoist. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
CAUTION:
DO NOT OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR MORE THAN 45 DEGREES FROM THE VERTICAL. DAMAGE TO THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR AND/OR PYLON CAN OCCUR.
(c) Slowly lift the left thrust-reverser door (8) with the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING until the left thrust-reverser door (8) opens to a small distance more than 43 degrees from the vertical. WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU CORRECTLY ENGAGED THE THRUST-REVERSER HOLD-OPEN ROD BEFORE YOU MOVE BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND THE OPEN THRUST-REVERSER DOOR.
THE DOOR IS HEAVY AND WILL CLOSE QUICKLY IF THERE IS A FAILURE OF THE THRUST REVERSER SLING. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING:
DO NOT UNLOCK THE HOLD-OPEN ROD UNTIL YOU PREPARE TO CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR. UNLOCKING THE HOLD-OPEN ROD CAN CAUSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR TO CLOSE, WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(4) Adjust the length of the hold open rod (15) until it locks into the extended position. (a) Make sure that you can see the green band on the slide on the hold open rod (15).
NOTE: When the green band is in view, the hold open rod (15) is correctly locked.
(5) Attach the hold open rod (15) to the hold-open-rod support bracket (18) on the fan case. (6) Lower the left thrust-reverser door (8) with the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING until its weight is on the hold open rod (15).
(7) Make sure that you can see the green band on the slide on hold open rod (15).
F. Opening of the Right Thrust-Reverser Door

(a) For configuration 1 (636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING Rev. A), attach the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING as follows:
1 Attach the forward latch-beam bracket and the aft latch-beam bracket to the bottom of the right thrust-reverser door (1). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
2 Attach the -601-1 round tube, the -601-2 round tube and the two -604 stop assemblies through the lower loop of the -701 strap assembly. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
3 Attach the -601-1 round tube on the forward latch-beam bracket and the aft latch-beam bracket. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
4 Put the -901 shield mat on the right thrust-reverser door (1). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
5 Attach the -101-2 hand chain hoist to the CRANE 500 KG (1100 LB) or equivalent.
6 Attach the -701 strap assembly to the -101-2 hand chain hoist. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
(b) For configuration 2 (636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING Rev. B and after), attach the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING as follows:
1 Attach the -1002 forward latch-beam bracket and the -1003 aft latch-beam bracket to the bottom of the right thrust-reverser door (1). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
2 Insert the eye end of the -1001 strap assembly into the hoist shackle on the -1002 forward latch-beam bracket.
3 Insert the eye end of the -1001 strap assembly into the hoist shackle on the -1003 aft latch-beam bracket.
4 Put the felt pad around the master-link on the -1001 strap assembly. Make sure that the master-link cannot touch the right thrust-reverser door (1). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
5 Attach the -901 shield mat on the right thrust-reverser door (1). Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
6 Attach the -101-2 hand chain hoist to the CRANE 500 KG (1100 LB) or equivalent.
7 Attach the -1001 strap assembly to the -101-2 hand chain hoist. Refer to the work instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
(a) Make sure that you can see the green band on the slide on the hold open rod (17).
(6) Lower the right thrust-reverser door (1) with the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING until its weight is on the hold open rod (17).
(7) Make sure that you can see the green band on the slide on hold open rod (17).
CAUTION:
DO NOT CONNECT THE HOLD OPEN ROD TO THE ENGINE FAN CASE BEFORE YOU FULLY OPEN THE RIGHT THRUST REVERSER DOOR. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.

(3) Installation of the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING.
(a) For configuration 1 (636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING Rev. A), attach the 636-3000-7GSE THRUST REVERSER HANDLING SLING as follows:
