3. Job Set-up
Subtask 78-31-41-941-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)

   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position on the right side of the engine.

C. Make the thrust reverser unserviceable (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041).
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-31-41-010-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal for Access
   (1) For the lower blocker door, remove the clevis access door as follows:
     (a) Remove the three screws.
     (b) Remove the access door.
   (2) For the upper blocker door, remove the clevis access door as follows:
     (a) Remove the eight screws.
     (b) Remove the access door.

B. Removal of the Hydraulic Actuator Clevis
   (1) Remove the hydraulic actuator clevis from the blocker door.
     (a) Remove the four bolts and the washers which attach the clevis on the blocker door.

C. Get Access
   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-040):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

D. Manual Deployment of the Blocker Door
CAUTION: YOU MUST HOLD THE END OF THE HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL IT. THIS MAKES SURE YOU DO NOT DAMAGE THE RAMP FAIRING.
   (1) Deploy the blocker door manually (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-41-860-001).
NOTE: Do not install the lock-out fairing at the end of this procedure.
Subtask 78-31-41-480-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
E. Installation of the Hold-open Rod
WARNING: MAKE THE THRUST REVERSER UNSERVICEABLE. IF THE THRUST REVERSER IS NOT MADE UNSERVICEABLE, IT CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY BECAUSE THE BLOCKER DOOR HOLD-OPEN ROD DOES NOT RESIST THE ACTUATOR HYDRAULIC PRESSURE. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Install the HIX3002 HOLD,OPEN ROD-PIVOTING DOOR.
     (a) Attach the hold-open rod to the lock-out fitting of the forward frame with the knurled screw.
     (b) Attach the other end of the hold-open rod to the lock-out fitting of the blocker door with the knurled screw.

F. Removal of the Blocker Door Hydraulic Actuators
   (1) Remove the clevis from the hydraulic actuator.
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin.
     (b) Remove the castellated nut, the washer and the pin.
     (c) Remove the clevis.
   (2) Disconnection of the rod and head supply hoses
WARNING: WEAR A FACE SHIELD WHICH IS RESISTANT TO HIGH PRESSURE JETS WHEN YOU WORK ON PRESSURIZED SYSTEMS.
WARNING: DO NOT GET HYDRAULIC FLUID ON YOUR SKIN, IN YOUR EYES OR IN YOUR MOUTH. HYDRAULIC FLUID IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY. FLUSH HYDRAULIC FLUID FROM YOUR EYES, MOUTH OR SKIN WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL AID IF YOU GET HYDRAULIC FLUID IN YOUR EYES OR MOUTH.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
     (a) Disconnect the rod and head supply hoses from the hydraulic actuator.
   (3) Remove the hydraulic actuator.
     (a) Remove the four nuts and the bolts which attach the hydraulic actuator on the forward frame.
     (b) Removal of the hydraulic actuator from the forward frame
CAUTION: YOU MUST HOLD THE END OF THE HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL IT. THIS MAKES SURE YOU DO NOT DAMAGE THE RAMP FAIRING.
       1 Remove the hydraulic actuator from the forward frame.
     (c) Remove the nipples from the hydraulic actuator.
     (d) Remove and discard the preformed packings from the nipples.
     (e) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
