Removal of the Exhaust Rear Plug


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Nacelle Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-11-41-020-052-A
A. Removal of the Exhaust Rear Plug
   (1) Loosen all the bolts (2).
   (2) Remove all the bolts (2) and washers (3), except bolts (2) and washers (3) on position numbers 1, 9, 18 and 26.
   (3) Remove the bolts (2) and washers (3) from the bolt position numbers 1, 9, 18 and 26.
NOTE: Two mechanics are necessary to remove the exhaust rear plug. One must hold the end of the exhaust rear plug assembly while the other is removing bolts (2) and washers (3) from the remaining positions 1, 9, 18 and 26.
   (4) Hold the exhaust rear plug (1), while you remove the bolts (2) and washers (3) from the bolt positions numbers 1, 9, 18 and 26.
   (5) Remove of the exhaust rear plug (1).
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE EXHAUST REAR PLUG. THE EXHAUST REAR PLUG WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 15.43 LB (7 KG), INJURY TO PERSON AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: CAREFULLY MOVE THE EXHAUST REAR PLUG AXIALLY TO THE AFT OF THE VENT TUBE (ENGINE PART) BEFORE YOU MOVE IT LATERALLY. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE EXHAUST REAR PLUG AND VENT TUBE CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Remove the exhaust rear plug (1).
     (b) Put the exhaust rear plug (1) on the 98N7810H001-000 EXHAUST DOLLY.
     (c) Remove the support center vent tube from the exhaust rear plug (Ref. AMM TASK 72-59-12-000-802).
NOTE: This operation is necessary, if you install an exhaust rear plug without support center vent tube.
