Subtask 78-11-11-350-061-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Worn or Damaged Seals
   (1) The seals are bonded with adhesive at each end. The splices and adhesive bonding must be removed to release the seal ends. Use a KNIFE - PALLET to remove the splices at the splice points and to separate the damaged seal from adjacent seals. Do not damage the adjacent seals.
NOTE: If only a part of the seal is damaged, cut out and replace the damaged part only.

B. Preparation of the Parts for Installation
WARNING: WEAR APPLICABLE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) WHEN YOU DO THIS TASK. BEFORE YOU USE PPE, READ, UNDERSTAND AND OBEY ALL INSTRUCTIONS FOR ITS USE. THESE INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MANUFACTURER, YOUR EMPLOYER AND GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS. YOU CAN GET INJURED IF YOU DO NOT USE PPE. GET INSTRUCTIONS FROM YOUR EMPLOYER ON WHICH PPE IS NECESSARY.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: USE LINT-FREE GLOVES (MATERIAL NO. V02-097) WHEN YOU TOUCH THE CLEAN PARTS. THIS WILL HELP PREVENT CONTAMINATION.
   (1) Make the new seals and splices.
     (a) Use the applicable repair parts to make the new seals and splices. Cut the seal to the necessary length so each seal will agree with the carrier contour.
   (2) Make the mating surfaces of the rubber parts rough.
     (a) Use aluminium oxide abrasive paper (Material No.V05-074) . Make the mating surfaces of the rubber parts and the inner surface of the seal ends rough.
   (3) Clean the surface.
     (a) Use a KNIFE - PALLET or aluminium oxide abrasive paper (Material No.V05-074) . Remove the remaining adhesive from the repair area. Use dry air blast or vacuum to remove unwanted material. Make the lint-free cloth (Material No.V02-099) moist with solvent (Material No.V01-438) . Use the moist cloth to clean the repair area. Rub the surfaces clean before the solvent dries.

C. Installation of the New Parts
(1) Apply the silicone rubber compound to the mating surfaces.
     (a) Apply a layer of silicone rubber compound (Material No.V08-031) to the mating surfaces of the splices and seal ends.
   (2) Assemble the seals.
     (a) Put the seals in the retainers. Insert the seal ends as required to assemble the seals. Make sure the vent holes in the seals are positioned aft. If necessary, use silicone rubber compound (Material No.V08-031) to fill the spaces at the splice joints.
NOTE: Do not apply too much force to the seal ends and splices during installation. Too much force causes the adhesive to come out.
   (3) Clean the repair area.
     (a) Make a lint-free cloth (Material No.V02-099) moist with solvent (Material No.V01-438) . Use the moist cloth to remove unwanted silicone rubber compound (Material No.V08-031) from the surface of the seal.
NOTE: The compound remaining on the seal surface after bonding is no more than 0.02 in. (0.50 mm) thick.
   (4) Cure the adhesive.
     (a) Let the repair area dry at room temperature for 24 hours before you touch the parts.
NOTE: It is not necessary to let the silicone rubber compound fully cure during the repair. The uncured silicone rubber compound is structurally and functionally acceptable.
