A. Disconnection of the VSV Actuator
(1) Remove the nut (2), the washer (1) and the bolt (4). Disconnect the rod (3) from the actuator.
Subtask 75-32-42-040-087-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the nut (2), the washer (1) and the bolt (4). Disconnect the rod (3) from the actuator.
CAUTION:
DO NOT BREATHE GAS FROM TEFLON BASED LUBRICANT. PUT A PROTECTION ON YOUR MOUTH. THE GAS CAN IRRITATE YOU.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU SHAKE THE LUBRICANT WELL BEFORE USE. THIS WILL MAKE SURE THAT THE PTFE IS WELL DISTRIBUTED WITHIN THE LUBRICANT.
CAUTION:
DO NOT APPLY LUBRICANT TO THE VSV ACTUATOR.
CAUTION:
DO NOT APPLY LUBRICANT TO THE VSV LEVERS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT LUBRICATE CRANKSHAFT BEARING. THESE VSV CRANKSHAFT BEARINGS ARE DESIGNED TO RUN DRY. LUBRICATION OF THESE WILL CAUSE SWELLING ON THE BEARING FABROID MATERIAL, RESULTING IN TIGHTNESS OF OPERATION.
B. Application of the Lubricant with the VSV Mechanism at the Low Speed Position NOTE: Make sure the VSV system is at the low speed position. If necessary, use an applicable wrench on the flats of the crankshaft to move the VSV mechanism to its low speed position.
(1) Use a SYRINGE and HOSE LENGTH 2 M (6.6 FT) to squirt the lubricant (Material No.V10-108) on to all stages, on the surfaces that follow: (a) VSV unison ring centralizing pads.
C. Application of the Lubricant when Moving the VSV System from the Low Speed to the High Speed Position
(2) Squirt the lubricant on to the areas that can now be seen as given in B.(1)(a) above.
(3) Move the VSV system again and again from the high to the low speed position. Use an applicable wrench on the flats of the crankshaft. Make sure sufficient lubricant goes between the casing pads and the actuating ring.
(4) Check the force necessary to move the VSV mechanism.
(a) Measure the torque after the lubrication. Put a torque wrench with an applicable wrench adapter on the wrench flats of the crankshaft. Measure the torque necessary to turn crankshaft from the low speed position to the high speed position.
1 If the torque necessary after the lubrication is more than 350 lbf.in (3.96 m.daN), reject the engine.
Subtask 75-32-42-420-074-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
DO NOT LET THE VSVS MOVE THROUGH THE LOW OR HIGH SPEED POSITIONS WHEN THE CRANKSHAFT IS TURNED. THE ENGINE CAN BE DAMAGED INTERNALLY.
(1) Use an applicable wrench on the flats of the crankshaft and move the VSV system from the low speed to the high speed position.

D. Locking of the Actuator and the Crank Assembly
(1) Move the actuator ram to the high speed position (ram retracted) so that the fork end is against the high speed stop.
(3) Installation of the rig pin.
Subtask 75-32-42-420-075-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Move the actuator ram to the high speed position (ram retracted) so that the fork end is against the high speed stop.
NOTE: Use a WRENCH - STANDARD on the flats on the crank to move the VSVs to the high speed position.
(2) Position the ram to align the rig pin slot in the fork end with the hole in the rig pin housing. (3) Installation of the rig pin.
CAUTION:
YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT THE RIG PIN IAE1R18282 OR IAE1R18891 IS FULLY AND CORRECTLY INSTALLED IN THE VSV ACTUATOR. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THE AVAILABLE POWER FROM THE ENGINE CAN BE DECREASED.
(a) Install the IAE1R18282 PIN, RIGGING or the IAE1R18891 PIN, RIGGING through the rig pin housing and the actuator ram fork end. NOTE: Move the actuator ram fork end to align the rig pin slot in the fork end and the rig pin hole in the rig pin housing if the rig pin cannot be fully installed.
(4) Install the IAE1R18254 PIN RIGGING in the crank assembly. E. Connection of the VSV Actuator
(1) Put the rod (3) in position on the actuator.
(2) Installation of the bolt (4).
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
Subtask 75-32-42-080-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Put the rod (3) in position on the actuator.
(2) Installation of the bolt (4).
CAUTION:
YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT RIG PIN IAE1R18282 OR IAE1R18891 IS FULLY AND CORRECTLY INSTALLED IN THE VSV ACTUATOR WHEN YOU INSTALL THE BOLT. IF IT IS NOT, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT THE BOLT IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED TO THE VSV ACTUATOR FORK. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
(3) Install the bolt (4), the washer (1) and the nut (2). NOTE: Make sure the D-head bolt (4) is installed in the correct orientation to the VSV actuator fork. The D-head bolt straight face aligns with the location feature on the mating actuator fork.
(4) TORQUE the nut to between 370 and 290 lbf.in (4.18 and 3.28 m.daN )
(Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013). NOTE: The correct installation of bolt (4) makes sure that the nut (2) can be torqued correctly.
