A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809).

Subtask 75-23-10-020-056-A
A. Removal of the Left Modulated Turbine Cooling Valve
WARNING: BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET AIRCRAFT FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU GET FUEL ON YOUR SKIN OR ON YOUR CLOTHES, FLUSH IT IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER. IF NECESSARY, GET MEDICAL HELP. AIRCRAFT FUEL IS POISONOUS.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Remove the eductor valve (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-45-000-802).
   (2) Disconnect the B-nut (115) that attaches the oil manifold (118) to the turbine center frame (40) case. See the sheet 17 of the figure.
   (3) Remove the four bolts (117) that attach the four loop clamps (116) and the oil manifold (118) to the brackets. See the sheet 17 of the figure.
   (4) Remove the hose clamp (80) that attaches the left side core compartment cooling manifold (79) to the core compartment cooling air duct (81). See the sheet 10 of the figure.
   (5) Remove the Environmental Control System (ECS) HP leg (3) as follows: See the sheet 2 of the figure.
     (a) Remove the four bolts (2) that attach the ECS HP leg (3) to the combustion case (1).
     (b) Remove the bolt (7) and nut (6) that attach the turnbuckle (5) to the ECS HP leg (3).
     (c) Remove the two bolts (8) that attach the ECS HP leg (3) to the bracket (9).
     (d) Remove the coupling (11) that attaches the ECS wye duct (10) to the ECS HP leg (3) and remove the ECS HP leg (3) from the engine.
     (e) Remove and discard the seal (4).
     (f) Remove and discard the seal (12).
   (6) Remove the drain tube (16), tubes (108) and (109) as follows: See the sheets 3, 4 and 16 of the figure.
     (a) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the drain tube (16).
     (b) Remove the bolt (19) that attaches the loop clamp (17) and the drain tube (16) to the support bracket (13).
     (c) Disconnect the drain tube (18) B-nut from the drain tube (16).
     (d) Disconnect the drain tube (16) B-nut from the modulated turbine cooling-active clearance control fuel hydraulic manifold (15).
     (e) Disconnect the drain tube (16) B-nut from the drain tube (14) and remove the drain tube (16) from the engine.
     (f) Remove the bolt (20) that attaches the loop clamp (21) and the drain tube (14) to the support bracket (22).
     (g) Disconnect the tube B-nut (106) from the tube (23).
     (h) Disconnect the tube B-nut (114).
     (i) Remove the bolt (110) that attaches the loop clamp (112) and the tube (108) to the support bracket (37).
     (j) Disconnect the tube B-nut (107) from the tube (24).
     (k) Disconnect the tube B-nut (113).
     (l) Remove the bolts (110) that attach the loop clamps (111) and the tube (109) to the support bracket (37) and support bracket (36).
     (m) Remove the bolt (28) that attaches the loop clamp (27) and the tube (23) to the bracket (25).
     (n) Remove the bolt (28) that attaches the loop clamp (26) and the tube (24) to the bracket (25).
     (o) Remove the two bolts (30) that attach the bracket (25) to the bracket (29).
     (p) Remove the bracket (25) from the engine.
   (7) Remove the 4th stage air manifold (32) as follows: See the sheets 5 and 6 of the figure.
     (a) Remove the four bolts (31) that attach the 4th stage air manifold (32) to the forward compressor stator case (34).
     (b) Remove the two bolts (39) that attach the retaining strap (35) and the 4th stage air manifold (32) to the support bracket (37).
     (c) Remove the four bolts (38) that attach the support bracket (37) to the support bracket (36).
     (d) Remove the two bolts (45) that attach the retaining strap (44) and the 4th stage air manifold (32) to the support bracket (43).
     (e) Cut and discard the safety wire from the four bolts (46) that attach the 4th stage air manifold (32) to the turbine center frame (40).
     (f) Remove the four bolts (46) that attach the 4th stage air manifold (32) to the turbine center frame (40).
     (g) Remove the two nuts (42) and the two washers (41) that attach the support bracket (43) to the turbine center frame (40).
     (h) Cut and discard the safety wire from the four bolts (49) that attach the 4th stage air manifold (32) to the turbine center frame (40).
     (i) Remove the four bolts (49) that attach the 4th stage air manifold (32) to the turbine center frame (40).
     (j) Disconnect the 4th stage air manifold (32) from the scavenge caps (58).
     (k) Remove the two bolts (57) that attach the retaining strap (56) and the 4th stage air manifold (32) to the support bracket (52) and remove the 4th stage air manifold (32) from the engine.
     (l) Remove the two nut (51) and the two washers (50) that attach the support bracket (52) to the turbine center frame (40).
     (m) Remove the valve bracket (65) as follows:
       1 Remove the bolt (53) that attaches the loop clamp (54) and the tube (55) to the bracket (59).
       2 Remove the three bolts (60) that attach the bracket (59) to the valve bracket (65).
       3 Remove the bolt (64) that attaches the valve bracket (65) to the valve bracket (61).
       4 Remove the two bolts (66) that attach the valve bracket (65) to the valve bracket (61).
       5 Cut and discard the safety wire from the four bolts (67) that attach the 4th stage air manifold (32) to the valve bracket (65) and the turbine center frame (40).
       6 Remove the four bolts (67) that attach the 4th stage air manifold (32) to the valve bracket (65) and the turbine center frame (40).
       7 Remove the valve bracket (65) from the engine.
     (n) Remove the two nuts (63) and the two washers (62) that attach the valve bracket (65) to the turbine center frame (40).
     (o) Remove and discard the seal (33) from the end of the 4th stage air manifold (32).
     (p) Remove and discard the gasket (47) from the end of the 4th stage air manifold (32).
     (q) Remove and discard the metal seal ring (48) from the end of the 4th stage air manifold (32).
     (r) Remove and discard the gasket (68) from the end of the 4th stage air manifold (32).
   (8) Remove the High Pressure Turbine (HPT) cooling 7th stage air manifold (69) as follows: See the sheets 8, 10 and 11 of the figure.
     (a) Remove the four bolts (70) that attach the HPT cooling 7th stage air manifold (69) to the aft compressor stator case extension (72).
     (b) Remove the four bolts (76) that attach the HPT cooling 7th stage air manifold (69) to the HPT case (78).
     (c) Remove the two bolts (73) that attach the retaining strap (74) and HPT cooling 7th stage air manifold (69) to the support bracket (75).
     (d) Remove the HPT cooling 7th stage air manifold (69) from the engine.
     (e) Remove and discard the seal (71) from the end of HPT cooling 7th stage air manifold (69).
     (f) Remove and discard the seal (77) from the end of HPT cooling 7th stage air manifold (69).
   (9) Remove the bolt (91) and nut (92) that attach the clevis (90) to the left modulated turbine cooling actuator (93). See the sheets 12 and 13 of the figure.
   (10) Put the left modulated turbine cooling valve (89) in the closed position and remove the bolt (87) that attaches the left modulated turbine cooling valve (89) to the combustion case (1).
   (11) Put the left modulated turbine cooling valve (89) in the open position and remove the bolt (86) that connects the left modulated turbine cooling valve (89) to the combustion case (1).
   (12) Remove the four bolts (88) that attach the left modulated turbine cooling valve (89) to the bracket (82) and the bracket (83).
CAUTION: DURING REMOVAL, KEEP THE VALVE PERPENDICULAR TO THE CASE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THERE IS A RISK THAT THE VALVE PISTON RINGS FALL IN THE ENGINE.
   (13) Remove the left modulated turbine cooling valve (89) from the engine.
   (14) Remove and discard the internal pressure C-seal (85).
   (15) Remove and discard the two piston rings (84).
   (16) Install the COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION on all the open ports, open tubes, open hoses and the disconnected connectors.
