A. Installation of the Fuel Filter Cartridge
(2) Lubricate the new preformed packing (6) and (7), the new EIPC 73-11-10-01-080 O-RING (8) and the new EIPC 73-11-10-01-070 BOWL BACK-UP RING (9) and the new EIPC 73-11-10-01-070 BOWL BACK-UP RING (10) with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) .
(4) Visually ensure the O-ring and back-up rings are fully seated in the fuel filter housing (2) groove before proceeding with filter bowl (4) installation. An MIRROR - INSPECTION and a FLASHLIGHT can help to view if the O-rings and back-up rings are properly seated.
(5) Install the EIPC 73-11-10-01-060 FUEL FILTER CARTRIDGE (1) in the fuel filter bowl (4).
(7) Lubricate the upper non-threaded section of the fuel filter bowl (4) with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) and the threads of the fuel filter bowl (4) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
(8) Tighten the bowl:
1 If there is a sudden decrease in torque, remove the bowl and do an inspection of the O-ring (8) and bowl back-up rings (9), (10) for damage.
1 Safety the drain plug (3) withCP8001 lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. .
Subtask 73-11-10-710-060-A WARNING:
USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE THE ENGINE OIL IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. ENGINE OIL IS TOXIC.
CAUTION:
BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE FILTER BOWL, MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL FILTER BOWL O-RINGS AND BACK-UP RINGS ARE CORRECTLY SEATED AND LUBRICATED.
IF THEY ARE NOT, THEY CAN GET DAMAGED. DAMAGED O-RINGS CAN CAUSE FUEL LEAKS AND O-RING DEBRIS CAN GO INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT DOWNSTREAM AND INCORRECT FUEL FLOW.
(1) Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and clear of unwanted materials.
NOTE: The preformed packings (6) and (7) are included in the fuel filter cartridge. They can be removed and installed again to help with lubrication.
(3) Install the new EIPC 73-11-10-01-080 O-RING (8) with the new EIPC 73-11-10-01-070 BOWL BACK-UP RING (10) and the new EIPC 73-11-10-01-070 BOWL BACK-UP RING (9) in groove of the fuel filter housing (2).
NOTE: It is acceptable to install the filter cartridge into either the main fuel filter housing (2) or bowl (4).
(6) Verify that the latch (5) is in the open position. (7) Lubricate the upper non-threaded section of the fuel filter bowl (4) with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) and the threads of the fuel filter bowl (4) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
(8) Tighten the bowl:
CAUTION:
DO NOT APPLY TOO MUCH TORQUE TO THE BOWL. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BOWL.
(a) Install the fuel filter bowl (4) on the fuel filter housing (2) and tighten it carefully by hand. 1 If there is a sudden decrease in torque, remove the bowl and do an inspection of the O-ring (8) and bowl back-up rings (9), (10) for damage.
NOTE: A decrease in torque can be accompanied by an audible snap.
2 If you find damage, make sure all debris is removed before you install the new O-ring (8) and bowl back-up rings (9), (10). NOTE: If there is damage, it is likely that the packing was dislodged from the groove and cut.
(9) Final seating of the fuel filter bowl (4) can be performed using a WRENCH - TORQUE on the filter bowl lower boss if hand torque is not sufficient to seat the bowl (not to exceed 50 lbf.ft (6.78 m.daN). Do not attempt to seat the bowl by applying torque to the drain plug, only apply torque to the bowl boss to seat the filter bowl. NOTE: The fuel filter bowl (4) can be installed by hand tightening only. However, a WRENCH - TORQUE can be used if the bowl cannot be seated by hand torque alone.
(10) Pull the latch (5) down (in the direction of the filter bowl drain plug) and release it. NOTE: The latch (5) should return to the closed position and make contact with the fuel filter bowl (4).
NOTE: The latch (5) may sit at any position along the lock ring (either on top of the teeth or in the grooves). Do not tighten or loosen the fuel filter bowl (4) to change the alignment.
(11) Installation of the lockwire WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(a) Install lockwire on filter drain plug if not already installed during filter bowl removal. If lockwire was installed during filter bowl removal ensure it was not damaged during maintenance procedure. 1 Safety the drain plug (3) with
B. Test
(a) If there is a leak, remove the bowl and do an inspection of the O-ring (8) and bowl back-up rings (9), (10).
1 If you find damage, make sure all debris is removed before you install the new O-ring (8) and bowl back-up rings (9), (10).
2 If you cannot remove all of the debris, contact CFM for service recommendation.
5. Close-upCAUTION:
DURING THE DRY MOTORING CHECK, MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO LEAKS AT THE FILTER BOWL. IF THERE ARE LEAKS, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE PREFORMED PACKING IS DAMAGED. A DAMAGED PACKING CAN CAUSE DEBRIS TO GO INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM.
(1) Do the dry-motoring check (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-700-805).
