General Visual Inspection of the Deoiler Gear and Impeller Assembly


WARNING: DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
NOTE: Do not scrap rejected parts immediately. Parts can be subject for overhaul repair.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 72-60-29-941-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

C. Remove the deoiler gear and impeller assembly from the gearbox (Ref. AMM TASK 72-60-29-000-011).
4. Procedure
NOTE: If the deoiler gear and impeller assembly was found with damage debris could have fallen into the gearbox casing.
Subtask 72-60-29-210-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Visually Examine the Inner Side of the Gearbox
   (1) Visually examine the inner area of the gearbox for debris, where the deoiler gear and impeller assembly was placed. Remove and clean all debris from the inner side of the gearbox casing.
   (2) Visually examine the rear deoiler bearing seat. If wear or damage is found reject the gearbox or reject the engine.

B. Visually Examine the Deoiler Gear Assembly
   (1) Visually examine the deoiler roller bearing (1).
     (a) If the roller bearing (1) is damaged or shows wear on the bearing rollers, cage, inner race or outer race, replace the roller bearing (1).
     (b) If the roller bearing (1) is not damaged or does not show indication of wear, related to possible debris found on the RH GBX MCD, reject the gearbox or reject the engine.
   (2) Visually examine the deoiler ball bearing (2).
     (a) If the ball bearing (2) is damaged or shows indication of wear on the bearing balls, cage, inner race or outer race, replace the ball bearing (2).
   (3) Visually examine the deoiler gear shaft (3) and gear teeth. Examine all areas of the shaft and the gear. Do a check specially on machined surfaces of the shaft, the flanks of the gear teeth and the top of the gear teeth.
     (a) If the gear shaft (3) and/or gear teeth show damage or indication of wear, replace the gear shaft (3).

C. Visually Examine the Deoiler Nut
   (1) Visually examine the deoiler nut treads (2) for nicks, burrs, rolled metal, galling, flatness, scoring and damage on the surface.
     (a) If the surface shows nicks, burrs, rolled metal, galling, flatness, scoring or indication of other damage or wear on the surface, replace the nut (1).
   (2) Visually examine the nut washer face (4) for nicks, burrs, rolled metal, galling, flatness, scoring and damage on the surface.
     (a) If the surface shows nicks, burrs, rolled metal, galling, flatness, scoring or other indication of damage or wear on the surface, replace the nut (1).
   (3) Visually examine the nut wrenching slot (3) for nicks, burrs, rolled metal, galling, flatness, scoring and damage on the surface.
     (a) If the wrenching slot shows nicks, burrs, rolled metal, galling, flatness, scoring or other indication of damage or wear on the surface, replace the nut (1).

D. Visually Examine the Lock Washer
   (1) Visually examine the lock washer (1) for damage on surface, tang damage or burrs.
     (a) If the lock washer (1) shows damage on surface, tang damage or burrs or other indication of wear, replace the lock washer.
   (2) Visually examine the lock washer internal spline (2).
     (a) If the spline shows indication of wear, replace the lock washer (1).

E. Visually Examine the Deoiler Impeller
   (1) Examine all areas of the deoiler impeller (1) for surface damage and burrs.
     (a) If the deoiler shows burrs or other indication of damage or wear, replace the deoiler impeller (1).

F. Visually Examine the Deoiler Housing
   (1) Visually examine all areas of the deoiler housing (8) for cracks.
     (a) If crack is found replace the deoiler housing (8).
   (2) Visually examine the housing surfaces.
     (a) Visually examine the rough surfaces for nicks, scores and dents. If the rough surfaces show nicks, scores, dents or other indication of wear, replace the deoiler housing (8).
     (b) Visually examine the machined seal surfaces for nicks, scores and dents. If the machined surfaces show nicks, scores, dents or other indication of wear, replace the deoiler housing (8).
     (c) Visually examine the machined not seal surfaces for nicks, scores and dents. If the not machined surfaces show nicks, scores, dents or other indication of wear, replace the deoiler housing (8).
   (3) Visually examine the deoiler housing studs.
     (a) Do a check of the studs for axial movement. If the studs have axial movement, replace the deoiler housing (8).
     (b) Do a check of the studs thread for damage. If the studs thread are damaged, replace the deoiler housing (8).
   (4) Visually examine the deoiler housing threaded inserts
     (a) If the threaded inserts are loose, missing or with internal thread damage, replace the deoiler housing (8).
   (5) Visually examine the deoiler housing (8).
     (a) Visually examine the bearing seat location 4000 for damage and wear. If the bearing seat shows damage or other indication of wear, replace the deoiler housing (8).
     (b) Visually examine the bearing mating surface location 4. If the bearing mating surface shows damage or other indication of wear, replace the deoiler housing (8).
     (c) Visually examine the mounting face location 5 for damage and wear. If the mounting face shows damage or other indication of wear, replace the deoiler housing (8).
     (d) Visually examine the case mating surface location 6 for damage and wear. If the casing mating surface shows damage or other indication of wear, replace the deoiler housing (8).
     (e) Visually examine the impeller seat location 7 for damage and wear. If the impeller seat shows damage or other indication of wear, replace the deoiler housing (8).

G. Visually Examine the Deoiler Rotating Ring
   (1) Visually examine the deoiler rotating ring surfaces for corrosion, pits and scratches.
     (a) If the deoiler rotating ring surfaces shows corrosion, pits, scratches or other indication of wear, replace the rotating ring (1).

H. Visually Examine the Deoiler Casing
   (1) Visually examine the deoiler casing rough surface location 1.
     (a) Visually examine the deoiler casing rough surface. If there are nicks, scores, dents more then 0.039 in (0,10 mm), replace the deoiler casing (5).
   (2) Visually examine the deoiler casing machined seal surface location 2
     (a) Visually examine the deoiler casing machined seal surface. If there are nicks, scores, dents across the seal surface, replace the deoiler casing (5).
   (3) Visually examine the deoiler casing machined not seal surface location 3.
     (a) Visually examine the deoiler casing (5). If there are nicks, scores or dents more than 0.008 in (0,20 mm), replace the deoiler casing (5).
   (4) Visually examine the deoiler casing protective finish.
     (a) If light corrosion or pitting is found, replace the deoiler casing (5).
   (5) Visually examine the deoiler casing helicoil inserts
     (a) If there is movement, replace the deoiler casing (5).
     (b) If they are loose, missing or the internal thread is damaged, replace the deoiler casing (5).
   (6) Visually examine the deoiler casing Magnetic Chip Detector (MCD) housing location 4.
     (a) If the MCD housing internal thread is damaged, replace the deoiler casing (5).
5. Close-up

A. Install the deoiler gear and impeller assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 72-60-29-400-011).

B. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)

   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
