A. Install the Aft Acoustical Panels as follows (typical, any panel): NOTE: The 12 aft acoustical panels are attached to both the fan inlet case and the thrust reverser adapter-ring, at their aft end.
(1) Apply a layer of vaseline (Material No.CP5070) on the threads of the forward (three screws) and middle (one screw) screws (130) that attach the acoustical panel. (2) Apply a layer of vaseline (Material No.CP5070) on the threads of the aft screws (three screws) (150) that attach the acoustical panel.

(4) If the panel cup is found pierced (Ref. AMM TASK 72-23-00-400-044).
(5) Install the panel assembly on the forward case and attach it with:
- Four screws (130) with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) at the front and in the middle of the acoustical panel
- Three screws (150) with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) and three nuts (155) at the rear of the acoustical panel.

(8) Before the installation, do a visual inspection of the panel (140) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-23-00-210-004).
(a) Make sure that the two U-shaped seals (145), that are in stand-by on the two (non-removed and adjacent) fan aft acoustical panels, are in good condition.
(b) If not, remove the panel(s) that hold(s) the damaged seal(s) and install a new seal. See the note below.
NOTE: Refer to the PPIPC (72-23-00) when it is necessary to replace a seal (145). Because of the different strut sizes and clock positions, the seals (145) do not all have the same pre-formed shapes and can thus have different part numbers.
(9) Put the panel (140) in its approximate position on the fan case and the thrust reverser adapter-ring. (a) Engage one seal (145) first, against one of the panel edges, then engage the other seal (145) against the opposite panel edge.
(b) Make sure that the seals (145) are correctly compressed between the panel and the adjacent struts around the panel.
NOTE: It is not easy to get access to some (panel) clock locations. External aid will possibly be necessary to install the seal (145) correctly between the panel and the related struts.
(10) Put the panel (140), with its two U-shaped seals (145), on the fan case and the thrust reverser adapter-ring. (a) Attach it loosely with four screws (130) with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) at the front and in the middle of the acoustical panel, three screws (150) with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) and three nuts (155) at the rear of the acoustical panel.
END OF POST SB 72-0071
CAUTION:
IF YOU USE A PNEUMATIC OR ELECTRICAL SCREWDRIVER TO UNTORQUE AND LOOSEN ALL ACOUSTICAL PANEL SCREWS, MAKE SURE THAT THE SCREWDRIVER SPEED IS NOT MORE THAN 200 RPM. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ACOUSTICAL PANEL.
(11) Measure the self-locking torque of each nut when you start to tighten the screws (130). (a) When possible, start to torque with the screw in the middle of the acoustical panels.
(b) Make sure that the screws are not damaged and replace them if necessary.
(c) If the self-locking nut torque is less than 4.5 lbf.in (0.05 m.daN) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-23-00-400-043).
(d) If the self-locking nut torque is between 4.5 lbf.in (0.05 m.daN) and 31 lbf.in (0.35 m.daN),
- TORQUE the four forward and middle screws (130) of the panel to between 111.3 and 100.7 lbf.in (1.26 and 1.14 m.daN )
.
(f) If the self-locking torque is more than 49 lbf.in (0.55 m.daN), remove the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-000-042).
1 Do the engine shop repair procedure to replace the self-locking nut
(12) TORQUE the three nuts (155) to between 111.3 and 100.7 lbf.in (1.26 and 1.14 m.daN )

5. Close-up(1) Apply RTV 732 on the aft acoustical panels as follows:
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU APPLY MATERIAL RTV 732 AT AN AMBIENT TEMPERATURE OF 59 TO 95 DEG.F (15 TO 35 DEG.C) AND WITH A HYGROMETRY OF 40 TO 70 PERCENT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THERE IS A RISK THAT MATERIAL RTV 732 WILL NOT DRY CORRECTLY.
