Visual Inspection of the Front Spinner


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
1. Reason for the Job
This procedure gives the criteria for the visual inspection of the front spinner.
NOTE: Remove the front spinner if necessary otherwise inspect the visible area only.
NOTE: The inspection criteria below are applicable after the removal of the high metal.
NOTE: You can use equivalent alternatives for standard tools, equipment and consumable materials.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 72-21-40-941-052-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Remove the front spinner (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-40-000-801).

- 0.047 in. (1.2 mm) in depth
- 0.47 in. (11.9 mm) in length.

C. Nicks
Any number, up to:
- 0.020 in. (0.5 mm) in depth
- 0.20 in. (5.1 mm) in length
  • A continue-in-service of 100 cycles or 150 hours is permitted if the deviation is up to:
    - 0.047 in. (1.2 mm) in depth
    - 0.47 in. (11.9 mm) in length.

D. Scratches
Any number, up to:
- 0.020 in. (0.5 mm) in depth
- 0.20 in. (5.1 mm) in length
  • A continue-in-service of 100 cycles or 150 hours is permitted if the deviation is up to:
    - 0.047 in. (1.2 mm) in depth
    - 0.47 in. (11.9 mm) in length.

E. Missing black paint
- 100 percent of missing black paint is permitted if no corrosion mark is seen (white mushroom pattern).
- A continue-in-service of 100 cycles or 150 hours is permitted if a corrosion mark is seen.

F. Missing primer application
- 100 percent of missing primer application is permitted if no corrosion mark is seen (white mushroom pattern).
- A continue-in-service of 100 cycles or 150 hours is permitted if a corrosion mark is seen.

G. Missing sulfuric anodizing
- 100 percent of missing sulfuric anodizing is permitted if no corrosion mark is seen (white mushroom pattern).
- A continue-in-service of 100 cycles or 150 hours is permitted if a corrosion mark is seen.

Any number, up to:
- 0.0098 in. (0.25 mm) in depth
- 0.0339 in. (0.86 mm) in length.

B. Nicks
Any number, up to:
- 0.0098 in. (0.25 mm) in depth
- 0.020 in. (0.5 mm) in length.

C. Scratches
Any number, up to:
- 0.0055 in. (0.14 mm) in depth
- 0.055 in. (1.4 mm) in length.

3. Visual examination of the area H


A. Erosion of parent material
Any amount, if dimension J is minimum dimension 0.150 in. (3.8 mm).

- 100 percent of missing primer application is permitted if no corrosion mark is seen (white mushroom pattern).
- A continue-in-service 100 cycles or 150 hours is permitted if corrosion mark is seen.

B. Missing sulfuric anodizing
- 100 percent of missing sulfuric anodizing is permitted if no corrosion mark is seen (white mushroom pattern).
- A continue-in-service 100 cycles or 150 hours is permitted if corrosion mark is seen.

A. Missing white spiral-shaped mark

7. Visual examination of diameter D


A. Contact marks of bolt threads
Any amount up to 0.003 in. (0.08 mm) in depth.

B. Corrosion
Not permitted.

8. Visual examination of area F


A. Dents
Any number, up to:
- 0.020 in. (0.5 mm) in depth
- 0.20 in. (5 mm) in length.
A continue-in-service of 100 cycles or 150 hours is permitted if the deviation is up to:
- 0.047 in. (1.2 mm) in depth
- 0.47 in. (12 mm) in length.
