C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO THE DEACTIVATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO MAINTENANCE WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS PROCEDURE, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED OPERATION AND THUS OF INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Get Access
   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 72-21-04-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Fan Exit Fairing - Upper Bifi
   (1) Find the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) located approximately at the 12 o'clock position attached to the fan case.
   (2) Remove the two ferrules (4) and safety cables (left and right) (2) from the fan exit fairing (upper) (1), fan exit fairing (right) (3), and fan exit fairing (left) (5).
   (3) Remove the fan exit fairing (upper) (1), fan exit fairing (right) (3), and fan exit fairing (left) (5) from the fan case and Compressor Intermediate Case (CIC) firewall as follows:
     (a) Remove the two bolts (15) from the fan exit fairing (upper) (1), fan exit fairing (right) (3), and fan exit fairing (left) (5).
     (b) Loosen the two bolts (19).
     (c) Move the fan exit fairing (right) (3) and fan exit fairing (left) (5) vertically until the two bolts (19) disengage from the two holes.
     (d) Remove the fan exit fairing (right) (3) and fan exit fairing (left) (5) from the fan exit fairing (upper) (1).
     (e) Remove the six screws (18) from the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) and CIC firewall.
     (f) Move the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) vertically and remove it from the fan case.
     (g) Remove the four bolts (16) and two brackets (17) from the CIC firewall.
   (4) Installation of the protection covers
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
     (a) Make sure that you install COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
