Repair the Fan Blade Platform Rubber Seal
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GLOVES TO PREVENT POSSIBLE INJURY TO THE HANDS WHEN YOU TOUCH OR HOLD THE FAN BLADES. THE BLADE EDGES ARE SHARP AND CAN CUT THE HANDS.
CAUTION:
THIS AIRCRAFT ENGINE MAINTENANCE MANUAL REPAIR LETS YOU REPLACE ONLY THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER (OEM) RUBBER SEAL. IF THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE COAT ON THE FAN BLADE PLATFORM, THEN YOU MUS NOT DO THE REPAIR ON-WING. YOU MUST REMOVE AND REPAIR THE PART AS PER THE APPLICABLE SPECIAL PROCEDURES MANUAL.
CAUTION:
BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE BLADE ANTI-GALLANT ON THE BLADE ROOT WHEN YOU CLEAN THE BONDING SURFACE. IF ANTI-GALLANT TOUCHES THE BOND SURFACES, THE BOND WILL FAIL.
CAUTION:
DO NOT REMOVE MATERIAL FROM THE FAN BLADE BASE MATERIAL. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE FAN BLADE CAN OCCUR.

A. Safety Precautions

Subtask 72-11-03-320-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Repair the fan blade platform rubber seal.
(2) Remove the repairable fan blade from the hub as follows:
(a) Make sure that all the blades have marks to identify with their location on the fan hub.
(b) Remove the fan blade from the hub (Ref. AMM TASK 72-11-03-000-801).
(3) Remove the damaged or loose rubber seal from the fan blade platform with a SCRAPER - PLASTIC.
(4) Remove the remaining adhesive from the repair area by one or more of the procedures that follow:
(a) Remove the remaining adhesive from the repair area with the SCRAPER - PLASTIC.
(b) Remove the remaining adhesive from the repair area withP05-422 pad, scrub soaked in Acetone (Material No.P11-065) .
(c) Clean the repair area by PWA-A4 with Acetone (Material No.P11-065) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-810).
(5) Do a visual inspection of the repair area. Damage is not permitted thru the green paint primer at the bond area and damage is not permitted to the black erosion coat adjacent to the seal bond area.
(6) Clean the bond surface of the fan blade platform by PWA 83-A4 with Acetone (Material No.P11-065) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-810).
(7) Clean the bond surface of the new rubber seal by PWA 83-D2 with Acetone (Material No.P11-065) . Air dry at room temperature for 15 minutes minimum (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-810).
(8) Lightly make the bond surface of the new rubber seal rough by PWA 83-D1 (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-810).
(10) Bond the new rubber seal to the fan blade platform withP09-014 sealant, silicone rubber by PWA 611 (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-810). For the bond limits, see the figure:
(a) Adhesive can be seen along the edges.
(b) Use anP05-038 cheesecloth - bleached, new, woven, unsized wet with Acetone (Material No.P11-065) and lightly wipe to remove unwanted adhesive from area A before it cures.
(c) Let it cure for eight hours before you move it.
(d) Bonded surfaces must be held together for five minutes after adhesive is applied. If this requirement is not done correctly, remove the rubber seal, and do this repair from Step (3) through Step (10) again.
(e) Cure by PWA 611 to between 65 deg.F (18.33 deg.C) and 85 deg.F (29.44 deg.C) for 72 hours minimum at 50 percent relative humidity minimum.
(11) Install the fan blade to the fan hub at the same location as it was positioned. Installation in a different location can make a balance procedure necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 72-11-03-400-801).
(12) Remove the MAT - PROTECTIVE from the engine intake cowl and fan case.
(13) Examine the assembly for foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.
5. Close-upCAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(1) Put a MAT - PROTECTIVE on the engine intake cowl and fan case to protect the inner surfaces. (2) Remove the repairable fan blade from the hub as follows:
(a) Make sure that all the blades have marks to identify with their location on the fan hub.
(b) Remove the fan blade from the hub (Ref. AMM TASK 72-11-03-000-801).
(3) Remove the damaged or loose rubber seal from the fan blade platform with a SCRAPER - PLASTIC.
(4) Remove the remaining adhesive from the repair area by one or more of the procedures that follow:
(a) Remove the remaining adhesive from the repair area with the SCRAPER - PLASTIC.
(b) Remove the remaining adhesive from the repair area with
(c) Clean the repair area by PWA-A4 with Acetone (Material No.P11-065) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-810).
(5) Do a visual inspection of the repair area. Damage is not permitted thru the green paint primer at the bond area and damage is not permitted to the black erosion coat adjacent to the seal bond area.
(6) Clean the bond surface of the fan blade platform by PWA 83-A4 with Acetone (Material No.P11-065) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-810).
(7) Clean the bond surface of the new rubber seal by PWA 83-D2 with Acetone (Material No.P11-065) . Air dry at room temperature for 15 minutes minimum (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-810).
(8) Lightly make the bond surface of the new rubber seal rough by PWA 83-D1 (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-810).
NOTE: The water-break test is waived.
(9) Clean the bond surface of the new rubber seal by PWA 83-D2 with Acetone (Material No.P11-065) . Air dry at room temperature for 15 minutes minimum (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-810). (10) Bond the new rubber seal to the fan blade platform with
