Removal of the Fan Cowl Doors
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE BOLTS. THE FAN COWL DOOR CAN MOVE DOWN AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL BELOW THE FAN COWL DOOR.
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT AT OPEN POSITION, THE WEIGHT OF THE FAN COWL DOOR IS SUPPORTED BY THE SLING-FC POSITION.
CAUTION:
DO NOT EXTEND THE SLATS WHEN THE FAN COWLS AND THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS ARE OPEN. IF YOU DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
THIS PART IS A REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENT (RSC), WHICH CAN BE MOVED BETWEEN AIRCRAFT. THUS IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT OPERATION CONDITIONS AND A DIFFERENT LIFE RECORD (FLIGHT HOURS/FLIGHT CYCLES/CALENDAR) FROM THE AIRCRAFT IT IS INSTALLED ON OR REMOVED FROM. A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 71-13-11-865-053-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:

B. Removal of the Filler Plugs
(1) Remove the filler plugs (1) from the lower hoist points of the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for the installation when the task is completed.
(2) Remove the filler plugs (1) from the upper hoist points of the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for the installation when the task is completed.
Subtask 71-13-11-480-056-A (1) Remove the filler plugs (1) from the lower hoist points of the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for the installation when the task is completed.
(2) Remove the filler plugs (1) from the upper hoist points of the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for the installation when the task is completed.
C. Installation of the Tooling
(1) Put the sling fan cowl (3) in position on the fan cowl door.
Subtask 71-13-11-080-059-A (1) Put the sling fan cowl (3) in position on the fan cowl door.
NOTE: The sling fan cowl (3) is part of the 98N7110H001-000 FAN COWL HOISTING DEVICE.
(2) Install the pad universal attach (5) on the hoist points of fan cowl door with the pad universal attach screw (4). NOTE: The pad universal attach (5) and (4) are parts of the 98N7110H001-000 FAN COWL HOISTING DEVICE.
D. Removal of the Access Platform
(1) Remove the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE.

E. Opening of the Fan Cowl Door
(1) Open the fan cowl door at full position (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803).

F. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
(2) If necessary for inboard position, put a MAT - PROTECTIVE on the wing to prevent contact.

G. Removal of the Fan Cowl Door
(1) Gain access to the hinge points.
(2) Only for the left hand fan cowl door:
(a) Disconnect the upper electrical connector (16) from the pylon harness.
(b) Put a CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected connectors.
(c) Remove and retain the screws (10) and (7), washers (8) and clamps (9).
(d) Get access to the bonding straps (14) and (15) and proceed to remove the sealant.
(e) Remove and retain the screw (11), washers (12) and nut (13) from the pylon area and release the bonding straps (14) and (15).
(3) Install the MAT - PROTECTIVE on fan case zone under the fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22) in order to avoid damage during the task.
(4) Before you extract the hinge bolts, write a note of the positions of the bolts to put them in the same positions at installation.
(5) Removal of the hinge bolts in sequence forward, aft and middle:
1 Remove the pin (17) and discard it.
2 Loosen and remove the forward hinge nut (18) and washer (19).
3 Use the 98N7110H003-000 FAN COWL PROTECTION BULLETS KIT (20) to screw the bullet (thread protector) on the forward hinge bolt (23).
b Remove the bullet (thread protector) (20) from the forward hinge bolt (23).
c Remove the end of the fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22) from the fan cowl door forward fitting (21). Let fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22) end rest on the upper-fan case protector mat (only for the forward hinge).
1 Remove and retain the fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22) from the hinge fittings (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-46-000-802).
2 Disconnect the applicable end of the fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22) and put it on the engine case.
(c) Remove the aft hinge bolt (29):
1 Remove the pin (24) and discard it.
2 Loosen and remove the aft hinge nut (25) and washer (26).
3 Use the 98N7110H003-000 FAN COWL PROTECTION BULLETS KIT (27) to screw the bullet (thread protector) on the aft hinge bolt (29).
b Remove the bullet (thread protector) (27) from the aft hinge (30).
(d) Do Para. 4.G.(5)(c) for the middle hinge (28).
(6) If installed on inboard position, remove the MAT - PROTECTIVE on the wing.
(7) Remove the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE from the left hand fan cowl door area.
Subtask 71-13-11-020-065-A (1) Gain access to the hinge points.
(2) Only for the left hand fan cowl door:
(a) Disconnect the upper electrical connector (16) from the pylon harness.
(b) Put a CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected connectors.
(c) Remove and retain the screws (10) and (7), washers (8) and clamps (9).
(d) Get access to the bonding straps (14) and (15) and proceed to remove the sealant.
(e) Remove and retain the screw (11), washers (12) and nut (13) from the pylon area and release the bonding straps (14) and (15).
NOTE: Keep the bonding straps (14) and (15) installed on the fan cowl door.
(f) Put the flag in the unserviceable position (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-040-817). (3) Install the MAT - PROTECTIVE on fan case zone under the fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22) in order to avoid damage during the task.
(4) Before you extract the hinge bolts, write a note of the positions of the bolts to put them in the same positions at installation.
(5) Removal of the hinge bolts in sequence forward, aft and middle:
CAUTION:
OBEY THE SEQUENCE GIVEN FOR THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE HINGE BOLTS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE SEQUENCE, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(a) Remove the forward hinge bolt (23): 1 Remove the pin (17) and discard it.
2 Loosen and remove the forward hinge nut (18) and washer (19).
3 Use the 98N7110H003-000 FAN COWL PROTECTION BULLETS KIT (20) to screw the bullet (thread protector) on the forward hinge bolt (23).
NOTE: In the 98N7110H003-000 FAN COWL PROTECTION BULLETS KIT, use item 202 for the forward hinge bolt (23).
a Extract the forward hinge bolt (23) using the bullet thread protector (20) from the forward hinge (21). b Remove the bullet (thread protector) (20) from the forward hinge bolt (23).
c Remove the end of the fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22) from the fan cowl door forward fitting (21). Let fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22) end rest on the upper-fan case protector mat (only for the forward hinge).
NOTE: If it is necessary to remove the second fan cowl door, do the next step.
(b) If necessary, removal of the fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22):1 Remove and retain the fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22) from the hinge fittings (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-46-000-802).
2 Disconnect the applicable end of the fan cowl hinge rod F1 (22) and put it on the engine case.
(c) Remove the aft hinge bolt (29):
1 Remove the pin (24) and discard it.
2 Loosen and remove the aft hinge nut (25) and washer (26).
3 Use the 98N7110H003-000 FAN COWL PROTECTION BULLETS KIT (27) to screw the bullet (thread protector) on the aft hinge bolt (29).
NOTE: In the 98N7110H003-000 FAN COWL PROTECTION BULLETS KIT, use Item 200 for the middle and aft hinge bolt (29).
a Extract aft hinge bolt (29) using the bullet (thread protector) from the aft hinge (30). b Remove the bullet (thread protector) (27) from the aft hinge (30).
(d) Do Para. 4.G.(5)(c) for the middle hinge (28).
(6) If installed on inboard position, remove the MAT - PROTECTIVE on the wing.
(7) Remove the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE from the left hand fan cowl door area.
H. Disconnection of the Forward Hold Open Rod (HOR) (permanently attached to the fan case)
(1) Gain access to the forward HOR.
(2) Remove the cotter pin (36) and discard it.
(3) Remove the nut (35), washer (34), bushing (33) and screw (32).
(4) Remove the forward HOR (31) from the fan case fitting (37).
(5) Attach the forward HOR (31) to the stowage bracket (38) on the fan cowl door.
Subtask 71-13-11-080-060-A (1) Gain access to the forward HOR.
(2) Remove the cotter pin (36) and discard it.
(3) Remove the nut (35), washer (34), bushing (33) and screw (32).
(4) Remove the forward HOR (31) from the fan case fitting (37).
(5) Attach the forward HOR (31) to the stowage bracket (38) on the fan cowl door.
I. Removal of the Fan Cowl Door
(1) Remove the fan cowl door from the engine and put it on the 98N7110H002-000 FAN COWL DOLLY.
Subtask 71-13-11-080-061-A (1) Remove the fan cowl door from the engine and put it on the 98N7110H002-000 FAN COWL DOLLY.
J. Removal of the Tooling
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
(2) Remove the pad universal attach (5) and (6) from the hoist points of the fan cowl door.
(3) Remove the sling fan cowl (3) from the fan cowl door.
Subtask 71-13-11-420-063-A (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
(2) Remove the pad universal attach (5) and (6) from the hoist points of the fan cowl door.
(3) Remove the sling fan cowl (3) from the fan cowl door.
K. Installation of the Filler Plugs
(1) Install the filler plugs (1) in the upper hoist points.
(a) TORQUE the filler plugs (1) to between 1.06 and 0.82 m.daN (93.81 and 72.57 lbf.in )
