Removal of the Fan Cowl Strake


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
CAUTION: DO NOT EXTEND THE SLATS WHEN THE FAN COWLS AND THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS ARE OPEN. IF YOU DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN OCCUR.

Subtask 71-13-15-941-054-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Get access to the fan cowl door.
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

A. Removal of the Fan Cowl Strake

   (1) Record the bonding point positions.
   (2) Remove and discard the bolts (2).
   (3) Remove the fan cowl strake (1) from the fan cowl door.
NOTE: If the fan cowl strake will not be installed before the next flight, fill the fan cowl door strake fastener holes (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-040-810).

POST SPOL BD-FC-17001


POST SPOL BD-FC-17002

   (1) Record the bonding point positions.
   (2) Do the removal of the fan cowl strake:
     (a) For the Left Hand (LH) fan cowl door, remove the fan cowl strake (4) installed with the bolts (5) and washers (6).
     (b) For the Right Hand (RH) fan cowl door, remove the fan cowl strake (7) installed with the bolts (8) and washers (9).
NOTE: If the fan cowl strake will not be installed before the next flight, fill the fan cowl door strake fastener holes (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-040-810).
