Repair of the Edge Seal of the Acrylic Sliding-Window Panel
1. Reason for the Job
This procedure is used to repair the edge seal of the sliding window panel when it has bulges or tears.
This procedure is only applicable for acrylic sliding-window panel (GKN (formerly LUCAS/ACT) supplier).

Repair of the Edge Seal of the Acrylic Sliding-Window Panel
1. Reason for the Job
This procedure is used to repair the edge seal of the sliding window panel when it has bulges or tears.
This procedure is only applicable for acrylic sliding-window panel (GKN (formerly LUCAS/ACT) supplier).

A. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the sliding window panel is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 56-12-11-000-002).
(2) Make sure that the sliding window panel is in a safe position on a clean, raised padded surface.
4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the sliding window panel is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 56-12-11-000-002).

A. Repair of the Edge Seal of the Acrylic Sliding-Window Panel
(1) Removal of the edge seal
(a) Remove the damaged seal with a SCRAPER - PLASTIC.
(2) Remove the remaining vinyl on the edge of the sliding window panel with a SCALPEL.
(a) Prepare the mix Contact Adhesive-Window - Rubber Bonding Silicone base - (Material No.05JCD1) .
(b) Apply Contact Adhesive-Window - Rubber Bonding Silicone base - (Material No.05JCD1) on the new edge seal Elastomer-- Silicone Rubber - (Material No.14KAE1) and on the mating surface of the acrylic sliding-window panel.
(c) Wait for 20 minutes to allow the material to become touch-dry.
(d) Apply a second layer of Contact Adhesive-Window - Rubber Bonding Silicone base - (Material No.05JCD1) .
(e) Wait for 20 minutes to allow the material to become touch-dry.
(h) Let the edge seal dry for 12 hours minimum at ambient temperature.
(i) Cut off the unwanted edge seal at 45 deg. along the line of the chamfer.
5. Close-up(1) Removal of the edge seal
(a) Remove the damaged seal with a SCRAPER - PLASTIC.
NOTE: Make sure that you do not cause damage to the acrylic sliding-window panel.
(b) Use GLOVES - COTTON, LINT-FREE, CLEAN and GOGGLES - PROTECTIVE to clean the edge of the acrylic sliding-window panel with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol - (Material No.08BBD1) . (2) Remove the remaining vinyl on the edge of the sliding window panel with a SCALPEL.
NOTE: Make sure that the vinyl edge surface is flush with the edge of the sliding-window panel surface.
Make sure that you do not cause damage to the sliding window panel.
(3) Installation of the new edge seal Make sure that you do not cause damage to the sliding window panel.
(a) Prepare the mix Contact Adhesive-Window - Rubber Bonding Silicone base - (Material No.05JCD1) .
(b) Apply Contact Adhesive-Window - Rubber Bonding Silicone base - (Material No.05JCD1) on the new edge seal Elastomer-- Silicone Rubber - (Material No.14KAE1) and on the mating surface of the acrylic sliding-window panel.
(c) Wait for 20 minutes to allow the material to become touch-dry.
(d) Apply a second layer of Contact Adhesive-Window - Rubber Bonding Silicone base - (Material No.05JCD1) .
(e) Wait for 20 minutes to allow the material to become touch-dry.
NOTE: You must not let the adhesive dry too long between layers or between the final layer and the bond of the seal edge to the sliding window panel. If this occurs, the bond will not be correct.
(f) Put the edge seal in position on the edge of the sliding window panel. NOTE: Make sure that the edge seal surface is flat and smooth.
(g) Push the edge seal down all around. (h) Let the edge seal dry for 12 hours minimum at ambient temperature.
(i) Cut off the unwanted edge seal at 45 deg. along the line of the chamfer.
NOTE: You can also cut off the unwanted edge seal first, then push the seal edge back down tightly and let the edge seal dry.
