Removal of the Supports of the Engine Fire-Extinguisher Bottles

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.

MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: THE CARTRIDGE IS AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE. REMOVE IT BEFORE YOU DISASSEMBLE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. TO PREVENT INJURY TO THE PERSONNEL BECAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION OF THE CARTRIDGE IF IT HAS NOT BEEN FIRED:
  • INSTALL A SHUNT DEVICE.
  • THIS WILL SHUNT THE PINS TOGETHER ON THE CARTRIDGE BEFORE ITS REMOVAL.
DO NOT USE A FOIL SHUNT.
WARNING: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE A FULL FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. A SUDDEN OR HEAVY SHOCK TO A FULL BOTTLE CAN CAUSE UNWANTED DISCHARGE AND INJURY TO PERSONS.
WARNING: IF YOU REMOVE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLES IN A CLOSED HANGAR, MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A FLOW OF NEW AIR IN THE HANGAR.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 54-51-63-941-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the ENG/MODE selector switch and the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, at zone 415
     (b) For the right pylon, at zone 425.
   (2) Remove the applicable pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-802):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415BL and 415CR
     (b) For the right pylon: 425BL and 425CR.
   (3) Remove the applicable engine fire-extinguisher bottles (Ref. AMM TASK 26-21-41-000-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 54-51-63-020-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Supports of the Engine Fire-Extinguisher Bottles
CAUTION: WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SCREWS, MAKE SURE THAT YOU RECORD THE CORRECT POSITION OF EACH OF THEM. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS.
   (1) Removal of the bracket (1) from RIB6 of the pylon box:
     (a) Hold the bracket (1) in position.
     (b) Remove the nuts (3), the bolts (2) and the bracket (1) from RIB6 of the pylon box.
   (2) Removal of the bracket (4) from RIB7 of the pylon box:
     (a) Remove the bolts (28) and the washers (27) and disengage the clamps (26) from the bracket (25).
     (b) Remove of the bolts (19) and the washers (18) and disengage the clamp (17) from the bracket (4).
     (c) Hold the bracket (4) in position.
     (d) Disassembly of the bracket (8):
       1 Remove the nuts (13) and (16), the bolts (9) and (10) from the bracket (8).
       2 Disassemble the bracket (8) from the bracket (4).
     (e) Disassembly of the bracket (21):
       1 Remove the nuts (22) and (23), the bolts (5) and (7) from the bracket (21).
       2 Disassemble the bracket (21) from the bracket (4).
     (f) Remove the nuts (14), (15) and (20), the bolts (11), (12) and (6) and the bracket (4) from RIB7 of the pylon box.
   (3) Removal of the bracket (31) from RIB8 of the pylon box:
     (a) Hold the bracket (31) in position.
     (b) Remove the nuts (30), the bolts (29) and the bracket (31) from RIB8 of the pylon box.
