A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Obey the Fuel Safety Procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) On the panel 25VU, make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch is off.
   (3) Put a warning notice in the cockpit to tell persons not to start the APU.
   (4) Make sure that ground fire extinguishing equipment is available.
   (5) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).

C. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position below the APU access doors 315AL and 316AR.
   (2) Open the APU access doors 315AL 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 49-32-11-020-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Fuel Control Unit
CAUTION: PUT PLASTIC CAPS OR PLUGS ON ALL FUEL AND/OR LUBRICATION SYSTEM COMPONENTS AND LINES. IF YOU USE TAPE, CLOTH, OR METAL CAPS ON THEM, YOU CAN DAMAGE THE APU.
CAUTION: YOU MUST USE TWO WRENCHES AND HOLD THE COMPONENT WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL THE PIPE COUPLINGS AND/OR UNIONS. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENT.
   (1) Disconnect the electrical connector P19 (1) from the fuel control unit (12).
   (2) Remove the nuts (11), the washers (10), the bolts (8) and harness clamps (9) from the fuel control unit (12).
   (3) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (4) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) under the fuel inlet.
   (5) Remove connector (2).
   (6) Remove the pressure switch (4).
   (7) Remove the union (5) from the FCU (12).
   (8) Remove and discard the packings (3).
   (9) Make sure that the container is in position.
   (10) Disconnect the tubes (6), (13) and (15) from the FCU (12).
   (11) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
   (12) Hold the FCU and remove the V-band clamp (20) .
   (13) Remove the FCU (12).
   (14) Remove and discard the packings (18) and (19).

B. General Visual Inspection of the FCU shaft
   (1) Examine the FCU shaft.
     (a) If the FCU shaft is broken:
NOTE: If the FCU shaft is broken, a new FCU will be installed.
       1 Examine the inner spline area. The broken shaft can fall in.
         a If you find it, remove the broken shaft from the inner spline area.
  • Insert a PICK UP TOOL - MAGNETIC into the gearshaft to remove the broken shaft.
       2 If the broken shaft falls into the hollow diameter of the FCU drive gearshaft:
  • Insert a PICK UP TOOL - MAGNETIC to remove the broken shaft.
  • Rotate the PICK UP TOOL - MAGNETIC to align the spline teeth with the gearshaft spline and pull it out slowly.
     (b) If you find a sheared spline:
       1 Remove the debris from the gearbox with a PICK UP TOOL - MAGNETIC.
NOTE: The magnetic pick up tool needs to be 4.76 mm or smaller to fit inside the FCU drive gearshaft.
