General Check of the Bleed-Air Ducts


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

1. Reason for the Job
A. This TASK is for V2500-A5 engines.
B. This TASK gives the procedure for a general check of the bleed-air ducts without component removal.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 36-11-49-941-098-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the ENG section of the maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR.
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)

C. Deactivate the Thrust Reverser.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Deactivate the thrust reverser hydraulic control unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).

D. Open the Thrust Reverser Halves (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-010-010):
   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
451AL 452AR.
   (2) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
461AL 462AR.

E. Put the Ground Support Equipment in to Position
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position below the engine.

F. Clean the Bleed Air Ducts
F Bleed-Air Ducts ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with cleaning fluid (Material No.V01-002) to clean the ducts (3), (5) and (8).
   (2) Dry the ducts with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
4. Procedure
Subtask 36-11-49-210-065-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Examine the Bleed Air Ducts with the LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and the MIRROR - INSPECTION
F Bleed-Air Ducts ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Examine the bleed air ducts (3), (5) and (8) for security of attachment
     (a) If the ducts are loose, examine the connecting rod assemblies (1) and (4) for wear and adjustment. If one (they) is (are) damaged or worn reject it (them).
     (b) If the attachment nuts are loose or the bushes are worn, reject it (them).
   (2) Examine the bleed-air-duct connections for signs of leaks. No leaks are permitted
     (a) If signs of leaks are found
       1 Examine the connecting rod assemblies (1) and (4) for loss of adjustment.
       2 If there is a loss of adjustment examine the connecting rod assemblies for damage and wear.
       3 If damage or wear is found, reject it (them).
       4 Examine the couplings (2), (6), (7), (9), (11) and (12) and the union connection (10) for loss of torque.
       5 If there is a loss of torque, examine the couplings and the union connection for damage and wear.
       6 If damage or wear is found, reject it (them).
   (3) Examine the general condition of the bleed air ducts
     (a) Examine the ducts (3), (5) and (8) for cracks, dents and damage
       1 If the duct(s) has (have) cracks, reject it (them).
       2 If the duct(s) has (have) dents or damage, reject it (them).
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the thrust reverser halves (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-410-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
451AL 452AR.
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
461AL 462AR.

B. Activate the Thrust Reverser HCU (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-012).

C. Close Access
   (1) Close the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

D. Remove the Ground Support Equipment
   (1) Remove the access platform(s).
