CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE TASKS ON THE WING TRAILING EDGE:
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU START WORK, YOU MUST PUT ON A SAFETY HARNESS AND ATTACH IT TO THE ACCESS PLATFORM. WITHOUT A SAFETY HARNESS, YOU CAN FALL. THIS CAN KILL YOU OR CAUSE YOU INJURY.
   (1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) on panel 400VU to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.
   (3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) on panel 114VU to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Make sure that the flaps are in the fully retracted position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
   (2) Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION on the flap/slat control lever (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-002).

D. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable outboard flap tab.
   (2) Remove the fairings from the tab hinges at the 3A, 3B and 3C positions (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-000-005).
   (3) Lower the flap track No. 3 and No. 4 movable fairings (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-010-002).
4. Procedure
Subtask 27-54-62-020-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
A. Removal of the Outboard Flap Tab
NOTE: The procedure to disconnect the tab at the hinge 3A, 3B and the 3C positions is the same.
   (1) Disconnect the rear strut (6):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (3).
     (b) Remove the nut (2) and the washer (1).
     (c) Remove the bolt (7), the washer (8) and disconnect the rear strut (6).
   (2) Disconnect the forward strut (13):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (14).
     (b) Remove the nut (15) and the washer (16).
     (c) Remove the bolt (9), the washer (10) and disconnect the forward strut (13).
   (3) Disconnect the tab at the track 4 position:
     (a) Remove the nut (9), the washer (10), the bolt (12) and disconnect the bonding strap (11).
     (b) Disconnect the tab drive control-rod (23) from the flap track carriage (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-62-000-002).
   (4) Disconnect the rear strut (6):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (1).
     (b) Remove the nut (2) and the washer (3).
     (c) Remove the bolt (8), the washer (7) and disconnect the rear strut (6).
   (5) Disconnect the forward strut (17):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (18).
     (b) Remove the nut (19) and the washer (20).
     (c) Remove the bolt (13), the washer (14) and disconnect the forward strut (17).
   (6) Disconnect the tab at the track 3 position:
     (a) Remove the nut (22), the washer (21), the bolt (20) and disconnect the bonding strap (19).
     (b) Disconnect the tab drive control-rod (13) from the flap track carriage (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-62-000-002).
   (7) Disconnect the rear strut (15):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (17).
     (b) Remove the nut (18) and the washer (16).
     (c) Remove the bolt (24), the washer (23) and disconnect the rear strut (15).
   (8) Fully extend the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
   (9) Remove the eccentric bolt (9):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (12).
     (b) Remove the nut (11) and the washer (10).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (c) Remove and discard the lockwire from the bolt (7).
NOTE: Write down the position of the punch marks so that the eccentric bolt (9) can be installed in the same position.
     (d) Remove the bolt (7) and the washer (6).
     (e) Remove the toothplate (8) and the eccentric bolt (9).
CAUTION: HOLD THE TAB ALONG THE FULL LENGTH OF THE TRAILING EDGE. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE TAB WHEN YOU MOVE IT.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DISCONNECTED PARTS DO NOT TOUCH AND/OR CATCH THE ADJACENT STRUCTURE WHEN YOU MOVE THE TAB. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE FLAP.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE IS CLEAN AND DOES NOT HAVE ANY SHARP POINTS.
   (10) Removal of the tab from the flap:
NOTE: The weight of the outboard flap tab is 80kgs (176lbs).
     (a) Carefully and slowly lift the tab from the flap.
     (b) Move the tab and put it onto the SUPPORT STRUCTURE - FLAP.
   (11) Put the flaps back in the fully retracted position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).

B. Removal of the Tab Drive Control-Rod
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) If a replacement tab is to be installed, remove:
   (2) At the track 3 position:
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (4).
     (b) Remove the nut (5) and the washer (3).
     (c) Remove the bolt (1), the washer (2) and remove the tab drive control-rod (13).
   (3) At the track 4 position:
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (24).
     (b) Remove the nut (25) and the washer (26).
     (c) Remove the bolt (21), the washer (22) and remove the tab drive control-rod (23).
