Removal of the Inboard Flap Tab

  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

   (1) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.
   (2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
   (3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) on panel 400VU to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Make sure that the flaps are in the fully retracted position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
   (2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is on the slat/flap control lever.

D. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable inboard flap tab.
   (2) Remove the fairings from the tab hinges at the 1A and 1B positions (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-000-005).
   (3) Lower the flap track No. 2 movable fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-010-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 27-54-61-020-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Inboard Flap Tab
   (1) Install the 98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE on the flap and tab hinges at the hinge 1A and the track 2 positions (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-000-003).
   (2) Disconnect the tab at the hinge 1B position:
     (a) Disconnect the rear strut (5):
       1 Remove and discard the cotter pin (8).
       2 Remove the nut (9) and the washer (7).
       3 Remove the bolt (1), the washer (2) and disconnect the rear strut (5).
       4 Remove the sliding bush (6).
   (3) Disconnect the forward strut (18):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (15).
     (b) Remove the nut (14) and the washer (13).
     (c) Remove the bolt (10), the washer (11) and disconnect the forward strut (18).
     (d) Remove the sliding bush (12).
   (4) Disconnect the tab at the hinge 1A position:
     (a) Disconnect the tab drive control-rod (45):
       1 Remove and discard the cotter pin (46).
       2 Remove the nut (47) and the washer (48).
       3 Remove the bolt (42), the washer (43) and disconnect the tab drive control-rod (45).
       4 Remove the sliding bush (44).
   (5) Disconnect the forward strut (39):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (34).
     (b) Remove the nut (35) and the washer (36).
     (c) Remove the bolt (40), the washer (41) and disconnect the forward strut (39).
   (6) Remove the nut (28), the washer (29), the bonding strap (30), the washers (31) and (32) and the bolt (33).
   (7) Disconnect the rear strut (24):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (19).
     (b) Remove the nut (20) and the washer (21).
     (c) Remove the bolt (26), the washer (25) and disconnect the rear strut (24).
     (d) Remove the sliding bush (27).
   (8) Disconnect the tab at the track 2 position:
     (a) Remove the nut (58), the washer (59), the bolt (61) and disconnect the bonding strap (60).
     (b) Disconnect the tab drive control-rod (73) from the flap track carriage (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-000-003).
   (9) Disconnect the rear strut (53):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (56).
     (b) Remove the nut (57) and the washer (55).
     (c) Remove the bolt (49), the washer (50) and disconnect the rear strut (53).
     (d) Remove the sliding bush (54).
   (10) Remove the eccentric bolt (69):
NOTE: Write down the position of the punch marks so that the eccentric bolt (69) can be installed in the same position.
     (a) Remove the nut (67), the washer (66) and the screw (65).
     (b) Remove and discard the cotter pin (62).
     (c) Remove the nut (63) and the washer (64).
     (d) Remove the toothplate (68) and the eccentric bolt (69).
CAUTION: HOLD THE TAB ALONG THE FULL LENGTH OF THE TRAILING EDGE. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE TAB WHEN YOU MOVE IT.
   (11) Remove the tab from the flap:
NOTE: The weight of the inboard tab is 80 kg (176 lb).
     (a) Remove the 98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE from the hinges at the 1A and track 2 positions (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-400-003).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DISCONNECTED PARTS DO NOT TOUCH AND/OR CATCH THE ADJACENT STRUCTURE WHEN YOU MOVE THE TAB. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE FLAP.
     (b) Carefully and slowly lift the tab from the flap.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE IS CLEAN AND DOES NOT HAVE ANY SHARP POINTS.
   (12) Move the tab and put it onto the SUPPORT STRUCTURE - FLAP.

B. Removal of the Tab Drive Control-Rod
   (1) If a replacement tab is to be installed, remove the tab drive control-rod (73) from the tab at the track 2 position.
   (2) At the track 2 position:
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (70).
     (b) Remove the nut (71) and the washer (72).
     (c) Remove the bolt (74), the washer (75) and remove the tab drive control-rod (73).
