Cutting of the Rear Control Cables of the Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer (THS)
WARNING:
PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS IN THE TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS (STABLE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE) SPECIFIED IN THE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE CONFIGURATION PARAGRAPH.
CHANGES IN THE TEMPERATURE CAN CAUSE INCORRECT MEASUREMENTS.

Subtask 27-41-00-010-066-A
A. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the two ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE are in position below cargo compartment doors 825 and 826.
(2) Make sure that cargo compartment doors 825 and 826 are open.
(3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below access door 312AR.
(4) Make sure that access door 312AR is open.
(5) Make sure that the panels between FR35 and FR42 are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 53-32-12-000-002) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
Subtask 27-41-00-860-068-A (1) Make sure that the two ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE are in position below cargo compartment doors 825 and 826.
(2) Make sure that cargo compartment doors 825 and 826 are open.
(3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below access door 312AR.
(4) Make sure that access door 312AR is open.
(5) Make sure that the panels between FR35 and FR42 are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 53-32-12-000-002) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the air conditioning system does not operate (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001).
(2) Make sure that the aircraft electrical circuits are de-energized
(3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize the aircraft electrical circuits.
(4) Make sure that there is no neon light on near the cable, in the cable routing zone.
(5) Let the temperature in the aircraft become stable for a period of three hours before you start the adjustment.
(7) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the pitch trim.
(8) Make sure that the 0U190360 PIN-RIGGING,THS ACTUATOR,MECHANICAL INPUT LEVER (5) is in position on the mechanical input of the THS actuator (1).
(9) Make sure that the 98D27407532000 RIGGING PIN - THS MECHANICAL CONTROL (11) is in position on the tension regulator (2).
4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the air conditioning system does not operate (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001).
(2) Make sure that the aircraft electrical circuits are de-energized
(3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize the aircraft electrical circuits.
(4) Make sure that there is no neon light on near the cable, in the cable routing zone.
(5) Let the temperature in the aircraft become stable for a period of three hours before you start the adjustment.
NOTE: You can do other maintenance actions during the three hour period if they do not change the ambient temperature (no source of heat or cold, aircraft not energized, no air conditioning, no neon light sources in the cable routing area).
(6) Make sure that the pitch-trim control wheels are in the '0' position. (7) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the pitch trim.
(8) Make sure that the 0U190360 PIN-RIGGING,THS ACTUATOR,MECHANICAL INPUT LEVER (5) is in position on the mechanical input of the THS actuator (1).
(9) Make sure that the 98D27407532000 RIGGING PIN - THS MECHANICAL CONTROL (11) is in position on the tension regulator (2).
Subtask 27-41-00-820-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Tension of the Rear Control Cables of the THS
(1) Install the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12) between FR35 and FR37.
(2) Turn the nuts (15) to put the spindle systems (16) in the neutral position. Adjust the length of the spindle systems (16) to 155 mm (6.1024 in.) between its reference face and its end.
(3) Install the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) in the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12).
(4) Tighten tightly the screws (17) to lock the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(5) Tighten the nuts (15) to apply a tension of 32 daN (71.9388 lbf) on the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
Subtask 27-41-00-820-055-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Install the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12) between FR35 and FR37.

(1) Install the 98D27408001000 DEV PRE RIG CTRL CABLE A321 (12) at FR35.8.
(2) Turn the nuts (15) to put the spindle systems (16) in the neutral position. Adjust the length of the spindle systems (16) to 155 mm (6.1024 in.) between its reference face and its end.
(3) Install the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) in the 98D27408001000 DEV PRE RIG CTRL CABLE A321 (12).
(4) Tighten tightly the screws (17) to lock the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(5) Tighten the nuts (15) to apply a tension of 32 daN (71.9388 lbf) on the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
Subtask 27-41-00-220-063-A (1) Install the 98D27408001000 DEV PRE RIG CTRL CABLE A321 (12) at FR35.8.
(2) Turn the nuts (15) to put the spindle systems (16) in the neutral position. Adjust the length of the spindle systems (16) to 155 mm (6.1024 in.) between its reference face and its end.
(3) Install the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) in the 98D27408001000 DEV PRE RIG CTRL CABLE A321 (12).
(4) Tighten tightly the screws (17) to lock the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(5) Tighten the nuts (15) to apply a tension of 32 daN (71.9388 lbf) on the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
B. Measurement
(1) Measure the cable zone temperature and the external temperature with a THERMOMETER. Make sure that the temperature is the same at plus or minus 2 Deg.C (plus or minus 3.60 Deg.F).

C. Cutting of the Rear Control Cables of the THS
(1) On the LH cable (14), make a mark at a distance of 1714.5 mm (67.50 in.) from the reference face of the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12).
(2) On the RH cable (13), make a mark at a distance of 165 mm (6.50 in.) from the reference face of the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12).
(3) Loosen the nuts (15) to release the tension on the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(4) Loosen the screws (17) to unlock the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(5) Remove the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) from the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12).
(6) Remove the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12).
(7) Use an applicable tool (refer to the CFM cable manufacturing-manual) to cut the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) at the marks that you made.
(8) Install the new terminal studs on the cable ends (refer to the CFM cable manufacturing-manual).
Subtask 27-41-00-820-056-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the LH cable (14), make a mark at a distance of 1714.5 mm (67.50 in.) from the reference face of the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12).
(2) On the RH cable (13), make a mark at a distance of 165 mm (6.50 in.) from the reference face of the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12).
(3) Loosen the nuts (15) to release the tension on the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(4) Loosen the screws (17) to unlock the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(5) Remove the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) from the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12).
(6) Remove the 98D27408650000 DEVICE-PRE RIGGING,CONTROL CABLE (12).
(7) Use an applicable tool (refer to the CFM cable manufacturing-manual) to cut the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) at the marks that you made.
(8) Install the new terminal studs on the cable ends (refer to the CFM cable manufacturing-manual).
C. Cutting of the Rear Control Cables of the THS
(1) Make marks on the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) at a distance of 165 mm (6.50 in.) from the reference face of the 98D27408001000 DEV PRE RIG CTRL CABLE A321 (12).
(2) Loosen the nuts (15) to release the tension on the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(3) Loosen the screws (17) to unlock the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(4) Remove the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) from the 98D27408001000 DEV PRE RIG CTRL CABLE A321 (12).
(5) Remove the 98D27408001000 DEV PRE RIG CTRL CABLE A321 (12).
(6) Use the applicable tool (refer to the CFM cable manufacturing-manual) to cut the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) at the marks that you made.
(7) Install the terminal studs on the cable ends (refer to the CFM cable manufacturing-manual).
5. Close-up(1) Make marks on the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) at a distance of 165 mm (6.50 in.) from the reference face of the 98D27408001000 DEV PRE RIG CTRL CABLE A321 (12).
(2) Loosen the nuts (15) to release the tension on the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(3) Loosen the screws (17) to unlock the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13).
(4) Remove the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) from the 98D27408001000 DEV PRE RIG CTRL CABLE A321 (12).
(5) Remove the 98D27408001000 DEV PRE RIG CTRL CABLE A321 (12).
(6) Use the applicable tool (refer to the CFM cable manufacturing-manual) to cut the LH cable (14) and the RH cable (13) at the marks that you made.
(7) Install the terminal studs on the cable ends (refer to the CFM cable manufacturing-manual).
