Removal of the Offwing Escape Slide


WARNING: YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN HOLD THE COMPONENT BEFORE YOU REMOVE/INSTALL IT. THE COMPONENT IS HEAVY. IF IT FALLS, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

A. Energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the aft cargo compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position adjacent to the aft cargo compartment exit.
   (3) Set AFT CARGO COMPT light switch 8LU to the ON position.
   (4) FOR [7504MM] (ESCAPE SLIDE OFFWING L)
  • Remove access panel 151KW.
   (5) FOR [7505MM] (ESCAPE SLIDE OFFWING R)
  • Remove access panel 152KW.
   (6) Do the special precautions before you work on the escape slide system(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-481-001).
   (7) In the cockpit, on overhead panel 25VU (SIGNS):
     (a) Set the EMER EXIT LT switch (1) to the OFF position.
     (b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the EMER EXIT LT switch.
   (8) In the cabin, on the forward attendant panel(s):
     (a) Set the EMER EXIT LT switch to the OFF position.
     (b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the EMER EXIT LT switch.
   (9) Safety precautions in the cockpit:
WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
  • THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
  • COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION on the flap/slat control lever when you work near the flaps.
     (b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position on the flap/slat control lever to tell persons not to operate the flaps.
   (10) FOR [7504MM] (ESCAPE SLIDE OFFWING L)
  • Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position adjacent to panel 193AT.
   (11) FOR [7505MM] (ESCAPE SLIDE OFFWING R)
  • Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position adjacent to panel 194AT.

B. Get Access
   (1) Do the special precautions before you work on the escape slide system(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-481-001).
   (2) Safety precautions in the cockpit:
WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
  • THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
  • COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION on the flap/slat control lever when you work near the flaps.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position on the flap/slat control lever to tell persons not to operate the flaps.
   (3) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position adjacent to the applicable offwing escape-slide-enclosure.
4. Procedure
Subtask 25-62-42-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Offwing Escape Slide Enclosure
F Offwing Escape-Slide Compartment ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Remove and keep the seal attach plate studs (10) and the countersunk washers (11).
   (2) Remove and keep the seal attach plate (12) and the seal strips (9).
   (3) Loosen the escape slide enclosure studs (17).
   (4) Move the top of the escape slide enclosure (7) outboard at an angle and hold it.
   (5) Disconnect the emergency lighting electrical connector (14).
   (6) Disconnect the inflation hose (16) from the fuselage union (15).
   (7) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
   (8) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (9) Remove the escape slide enclosure (7) from the aircraft.
   (10) Make sure that all components are kept together which were removed with the escape slide enclosure (7):
  • Seal attach plate (12)
  • Seal strips (9)
  • Studs (10)
  • Countersunk washers (11).
    They are made to operate as a complete assembly.
NOTE: If the parts are damaged or you cannot find them, you can send an order of the components as spare parts (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-11-400-001).
Subtask 25-62-42-020-050-D ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Offwing Escape-Slide Enclosure (referred to as the enclosure)
F Offwing Escape-Slide Compartment ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Remove and keep the studs (12) and the washers (13).
   (2) Remove and keep the seal attach plate (14) and the seal strips (15).
   (3) Loosen the enclosure studs (10).
   (4) Tilt the top of the enclosure (9) outboard and hold it.
   (5) Disconnect the electrical connector (18).
CAUTION: USE A SECOND WRENCH TO APPLY COUNTER TORQUE TO THE UNIONS WHEN YOU DISCONNECT/CONNECT THE PNEUMATIC LINES FROM/TO THE UNIONS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, YOU CAN TWIST THE PNEUMATIC LINES AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
   (6) Disconnect the inflation hose (8) from the fuselage union (7).
   (7) Install two CUP - SUCTION HAND, DOUBLE, 50 KG (110.2 LB) CAPACITY on the enclosure (9) and remove it from the aircraft.
   (8) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
   (9) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (10) Make sure that all components are kept together which were removed with the enclosure (9) and the enclosure door (11):
  • The seal attach plate (14)
  • The seal strips (15)
  • The studs (12)
  • The washers (13).
    These components are a full offwing escape-slide assembly.
NOTE: If parts are damaged or cannot be found, you can send an order for the components as spare parts (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-11-400-001).
