1. Reason for the Job
This procedure is applicable to repair the fire protection sleeves on corrosion-resistant steel (21.6.9) pipes, ref. ASNA3288 in the pylon area.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) You must obey the hydraulic safety procedure when you do work on the hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-910-002).
   (2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the hydraulic systems.

   (1) Put the related hydraulic system in the depressurized configuration before the maintenance procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 20-23-11-917-120-A
A. Preparation for the Repair of Fire Protection Sleeves on Pipes in the Pylon Area
   (1) Refer to the table below to find the correct Eaton Aeroquip AE272 Flexwrap Firesleeve size to use on the applicable size of the pipe.

   (2) Use a sharp BLADE - RAZOR or a KNIFE - SHARP to cut a piece of Eaton Aeroquip AE272 Flexwrap Firesleeve.
   (3) Make sure that the size of the Eaton Aeroquip AE272 Flexwrap Firesleeve that extends on the two sides of the abrasion is more than 25.4 mm (1.00 in.).
   (4) Clean the damaged area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol - (Material No.08BBD1) and let it dry for 15 minutes.

B. Procedure to Repair Fire Protection Sleeves on Pipes in the Pylon Area
   (1) Fill the damaged area with OMat 872ARTV106 or with RTV736 to make sure that the diameter stays equal and keeps the initial size.
   (2) Wind the Eaton Aeroquip AE272 Flexwrap Firesleeve around the pipe with its natural curl.
     (a) Apply a bead of OMat 872ARTV106 or RTV736 on the top edge of the pipe and on the Eaton Aeroquip AE272 Flexwrap Firesleeve near the sleeve edge.
     (b) Wind the Eaton Aeroquip AE272 Flexwrap Firesleeve around the pipe and apply a bead of OMat 872ARTV106 or RTV736 below the outer edge (on the full length of the sleeve).
     (c) Tightly push the Eaton Aeroquip AE272 Flexwrap Firesleeve edge.
   (3) Remove unwanted OMat 872ARTV106 or RTV736 with Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
WARNING: USE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (4) Safety the Eaton Aeroquip AE272 Flexwrap Firesleeve with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy - approximately 12.7 mm (0.50 in.) from each end of the Eaton Aeroquip AE272 Flexwrap Firesleeve.
   (5) Seal the ends of the Eaton Aeroquip AE272 Flexwrap Firesleeve with OMat 872ARTV106 or with RTV736 to prevent wicking.
   (6) Apply OMat 872ARTV106 or RTV736 on the twisted wire ends to prevent snagging.
   (7) Let OMat 872ARTV106 or RTV736 cure for four hours before you use the pipe.

C. Inspection after Repair
   (1) After the pipe you repaired, make sure that:
     (a) There is a minimum distance of 25.4 mm (1 in.) between the pipe end fitting and the end of the repair solution.
     (b) There is the minimum clearance between the repair solution and the adjacent component or fitting (Ref. AMM TASK 20-23-14-910-001).
     (c) If the distance between the repair solution and the adjacent component or fitting is less than the minimum clearance:
  • Replace the pipe.
5. Close-up

A. Put the Aircraft back to its Initial Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Put the hydraulic systems back to their initial configuration.
   (4) Remove all the fixtures, tools, test and support equipment used during this procedure.
