Towing of the Nose Landing Gear on Inclined Blocks before Jacking

TASK 07-12-00-582-003-A
Towing of the Nose Landing Gear on Inclined Blocks before Jacking

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS STABLE AND DOES NOT MOVE DURING THE JACKING OPERATIONS. IF THERE IS UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT, THE LANDING-GEAR JACKING DOME CAN COME OFF THE JACK HEAD AND INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
1. Reason for the Job
To tow the nose landing gear on inclined blocks for installation of the wheel change jack. This is necessary when the height of the closed jack is more than the height between the ground and the jacking dome.
NOTE: You can lift the aircraft at the Maximum Ramp Weight (MRW).

A. General Information for Jacking
NOTE: The inclined blocks must have sufficient strength to hold the aircraft weight.
The inclined blocks can be made from:
  • Heavy timbers or railroad crossties, or
  • Plywood sheets with a steel plate with a minimum thickness of 6 mm (0.2362 in.) on them or
  • Plywood sheets with a light-alloy sheet with a minimum thickness of 20 mm (0.7874 in.) on them.
Subtask 07-12-00-210-061-A
B. Aircraft Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the safety devices are installed on the landing gears (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
   (2) Tow the aircraft (Ref. AMM TASK 09-10-00-584-002) a small distance to make sure that the nose wheels turn freely.
   (3) Do the inspection after a tire burst or thread throw or wheel failure (Ref. AMM TASK 05-51-15-200-001) if necessary.
   (4) Make sure that there is sufficient space around the aircraft.
   (5) Make sure that the aircraft is stable before you lift the aircraft (Ref. AMM TASK 05-57-00-200-001).
   (6) If you do ground operations (cargo loading/unloading, fueling/defueling, passenger boarding/disembarking) and jacking for a wheel change at the same time, you must:
  • Make sure that the door sill and ground support equipment (cargo loader, passenger bridge and/or catering truck) stay aligned.
  • Decrease the loading speed of the Unit Load Device (ULD) and make sure that the ULD smoothly touches the lateral stop of the Cargo Loading System (CLS).
  • Make sure that the weight change is not more than 20000 kg (44092 lb).
   (7) Make sure that the TMHCP07-00-00 WHEEL CHANGE AXLE JACK or equivalent, JACK - WHEEL CHANGE, MAIN/NOSE LANDING GEAR and BLOCK-INCLINED are in the correct condition.
4. Procedure
Subtask 07-12-00-582-054-A
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS STABLE AND DOES NOT MOVE DURING THE JACKING OPERATIONS. IF THERE IS UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT, THE LANDING-GEAR JACKING DOME CAN COME OFF THE JACK HEAD AND INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
A. Jacking
   (1) Installation of the Inclined Blocks
     (a) Put one BLOCK-INCLINED below each nose wheel. Make sure that:
  • The axes of the BLOCK-INCLINED are aligned with the aircraft centerline
  • The position of the BLOCK-INCLINED lets you install the hydraulic jack below the jacking dome.
   (2) Aircraft Towing
     (a) For the towing on the BLOCK-INCLINED, there must be one person in the cockpit to operate the brakes if necessary, and two persons to monitor the wing tips.
     (b) Pull or push the aircraft on the top flat area of the BLOCK-INCLINED (Ref. AMM TASK 09-10-00-584-002).
     (c) Put the CHOCK - WHEEL(S) in position in front of and behind the Main Landing Gear (MLG) wheels.
     (d) Remove the towbar from the Nose Landing Gear (NLG) fitting.
     (e) On the panel 110VU:
  • Set the PARKING BRK control switch to OFF.
   (3) Jacking
     (a) Put the TMHCP07-00-00 WHEEL CHANGE AXLE JACK or equivalent JACK - WHEEL CHANGE, MAIN/NOSE LANDING GEAR in position and adjust the jack until the jack head touches the jacking dome of the shock absorber.
     (b) Make sure that the wheel jack is stable and in the vertical position.
     (c) Operate the jack to lift the tire off the BLOCK-INCLINED.
     (d) Remove the BLOCK-INCLINED.
     (e) Change the wheels (Ref. AMM TASK 32-41-12-000-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 32-41-12-400-001).
     (f) Lower the aircraft on its wheels.
Do not lower the aircraft on its wheels suddenly. To prevent this, operate the control of the hydraulic jack slowly.
5. Close-up
Subtask 07-12-00-080-054-A
A. Removal of Tools
   (1) When the aircraft is on its wheels, remove the TMHCP07-00-00 WHEEL CHANGE AXLE JACK or equivalent JACK - WHEEL CHANGE, MAIN/NOSE LANDING GEAR.
   (2) On the panel 110VU:
  • Set the PARKING BRK control switch to ON.
   (3) Remove the CHOCK - WHEEL(S) from the MLG wheels.
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
