Demagnetization of the External Parts of the Frames of the Windshield and Sliding Windows

TASK 05-54-00-860-001-A
Demagnetization of the External Parts of the Frames of the Windshield and Sliding Windows

1. Reason for the Job
The demagnetization procedure is applicable to the external parts of the frames of the windshield and sliding windows.
Use this procedure if you are sure that incorrect deviation of the standby compass occurs after adjustment on the compensation base.

Subtask 05-54-00-860-050-A
A. Aircraft Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the A/C is not energized (batteries, engines or external power supply).
Subtask 05-54-00-010-050-A
B. Removal of the Standby Compass
   (1) Remove the standby compass (Ref. AMM TASK 34-22-23-000-001) from the cockpit and keep it away from magnetic sources.
4. Procedure
Subtask 05-54-00-280-050-A
A. Find the Magnetic Zones:
   (1) Obey the instructions from the manufacturer for the SAV486-04 GAUSSMETER.
   (2) Make sure that the SAV486-04 GAUSSMETER operates correctly:
  • The pointer must move when you put the instrument near the shaft of the windshield wiper motors.
   (3) With the SAV486-04 GAUSSMETER, find the magnetic zones of the external parts of the frames of the windshield and sliding windows. Record the value for each zone.
NOTE: You can ignore the magnetization on the shaft of the windshield wiper motors.
Subtask 05-54-00-869-050-A
B. Demagnetize:
   (1) Obey the instructions from the manufacturer for the SD7 DEMAGNETIZER - 110V 60HZ or the SAV890-71 DEMAGNETIZER-230V 50HZ.
   (2) Energize the SD7 DEMAGNETIZER - 110V 60HZ or the SAV890-71 DEMAGNETIZER-230V 50HZ.
   (3) Put the SD7 DEMAGNETIZER - 110V 60HZ or the SAV890-71 DEMAGNETIZER-230V 50HZ at a very small distance (approximately 1 cm) from the part it is necessary to demagnetize. This position gives the reference plane.
   (4) Push the power supply button (indicator light on) and keep the SD7 DEMAGNETIZER - 110V 60HZ or the SAV890-71 DEMAGNETIZER-230V 50HZ above the magnetic zone for 2 to 3 seconds.
Then move the SD7 DEMAGNETIZER - 110V 60HZ or the SAV890-71 DEMAGNETIZER-230V 50HZ away slowly at a constant speed and at right angles to the reference plane. You must move the SD7 DEMAGNETIZER - 110V 60HZ or the SAV890-71 DEMAGNETIZER-230V 50HZ to a minimum distance of approximately 50 cm before you release the button.
   (5) Do step (4) again for each zone that you must demagnetize.
   (6) De-energize the SD7 DEMAGNETIZER - 110V 60HZ or the SAV890-71 DEMAGNETIZER-230V 50HZ.
   (7) For each demagnetized zone, read the value shown on the SAV486-04 GAUSSMETER. Make sure that this value is near zero.
   (8) If you find zones that are not fully demagnetized, do step (4) again until the value shown on the SAV486-04 GAUSSMETER is near zero.
5. Close-up

A. Installation of the Standby Compass
   (1) Install the standby compass (Ref. AMM TASK 34-22-23-400-001).
Subtask 05-54-00-730-050-A
B. Compensation of the Standby Compass
   (1) Do the compensation of the standby compass (Ref. AMM TASK 34-22-00-730-001).
