3. Fault Confirmation
Subtask 80-11-00-710-091-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Do an engine dry motor to confirm the repair of this fault AMM 71-00-00-860-817.
NOTE: Starter Air Valve (SAV) position is determined by starter speed and N2 speed. This fault is set when the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) senses the starter speed is below a certain value after the SAV is commanded open.
   (1) If the engine dry motors and the fault does not come back, return the engine to service and monitor the engine to see if the problem come back.
   (2) If the engine does not dry motor, go to the Para. Fault Isolation.
4. Fault Isolation
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS WARNING, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: REFER TO THE MSDS FOR ALL MATERIAL USED AND THE MANUFACTURER'S SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL EQUIPMENT USED. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS WARNING, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE ELECTRICAL POWER FROM THE EEC BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE EEC CAN OCCUR.
Subtask 80-11-00-810-078-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Do as follow:
   (1) Make sure that the air is not supplied to the starter air control valve (4005KS).
     (a) Put a WRENCH 3 8 IN - STANDARD with an EXTENSION into the starter air control valve manual override hole location at the 3 o'clock position on the thrust reverser and rotate the starter air control valve AMM 80-11-00-040-803.
   (2) If the valve is stuck or binding:
     (a) Replace VALVE-PNEUMATIC STARTER [4005KS] AMM 80-11-03-000-801 and AMM 80-11-03-400-801.
     (b) Do the test given in Para. 3.
   (3) If the starter air control valve (4005KS) opens but the engine does not dry motor, continue below.
NOTE: If there is little or no air coming out of the exhaust baffles on the starter (100KM), check the pneumatic supply system for proper air pressure and look for pneumatic supply system faults. Make sure that the air pressure is supplied from the isolation valve to the starter before continuing.
   (4) If the starter air control valve (4005KS) opens but the engine does not dry motor, try to turn the engine by hand using the N2 crank pad on the gearbox AMM 72-00-00-400-805.
     (a) If the engine can be turned using the N2 crank pad, do as follow:
1 Look at the starter magnetic chip collector (102KM) AMM 80-11-00-200-801.
a If the starter magnetic chip collector (102KM) is not within limits, replace STARTER-PNEUMATIC [100KM] AMM 80-11-01-000-801 and AMM 80-11-01-400-801.
  • Examine the remaining engine oil system magnetic chip collectors for oil system contamination AMM 79-00-00-281-802.
  • If the oil system chip collector inspection is not within the limits, remove the engine from service.
  • If the oil system magnetic chip collector inspection is OK, go to the next step.
b If the starter chip collector (102KM) inspection is within limits, continue below.
     (b) If the engine will not turn using the N2 crank pad, remove and replace the engine AMM 71-00-51-000-802 and AMM 71-00-51-400-802.
     (c) If the engine can be turned using the N2 crank pad, replace STARTER-PNEUMATIC [100KM] AMM 80-11-01-000-801 and AMM 80-11-01-400-801.
5. Close-up
Subtask 80-11-00-860-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
     (a) Close the thrust reverser cowl-doors AMM 78-36-00-410-802.
