A. Introduction

During normal operation of the ECAM, the FUEL - AUTO TRANSFER FAULT is a configuration warning.
NOTE: This ECAM warning is only given in certain flight phases, and is controlled by the FWC (Ref. ESLD 01-28-405).
This warning function is set (activated) simultaneously with the FAULT legend on the P/BSW-FUEL/CTR TK/MODE SEL/AUTO (4QL).
NOTE: The FAULT is only given with the P/BSW in the AUTO (in) position.
The above indications are given because the fuel load distribution is not correct or the fuel has not been used in the correct sequence.

The warning is set if the fuel distribution, for any reason, is as follows:
  • the left wing tank, less than 4950 kg (10913 lb) AND the center tank, more than 300 kg (660 lb)
  • the right wing tank, less than 4950 kg (10913 lb) AND the center tank, more than 300 kg (660 lb).

The warning is reset if the fuel distribution, for any reason, changes as follows:
  • the left wing tank, more than 5000 kg (11023 lb) OR the center tank, less than 250 kg (550 lb)
  • the right wing tank, more than 5000 kg (11023 lb) OR the center tank, less than 250 kg (550 lb).

The logic for this warning is contained in the FQIC 3QT and is:
  • set and reset immediately the specified conditions are correct
  • inhibited during refuel.

The FQIC warning/FAULT logic output is transmitted as follows:
  • on two (2) ARINC bus lines to the FWC (ECAM)
  • on one (1) discrete signal line to the P/BSW-FUEL/CTR TK/MODE SEL/AUTO (4QL) FAULT legend.

B. Pre-requisite Test 1
   (1) Examine the aircraft log and try to find the fuel configuration at the time of the original/repeat failure and compare it with the fuel configuration given in the introduction.
     (a) If the warning/fault was given when the fuel load distribution:

  • was correct (and the warning is incorrectly given), do the TSM procedure (Ref. TSM TASK 28-26-00-810-815)

  • was not correct (or if you cannot find out what the fuel load distribution was at the time the warning was given), do Para. 3.C.

C. Pre-requisite Test 2
   (1) Do the Functional (BITE) Test (of the FLSS) AMM 28-46-00-740-001.
     (a) Examine the FLSS STATUS page for one or more of the messages that follow:
  • FLSCU1(2) 7QJ(9QJ)
  • C LO LEVEL SENSOR 21QJ
  • C LO LEVEL SENSOR 22QJ
  • L(R) FULL SENSOR 23QJ1(2)

  • L(R) UNFULL SENSOR 25QJ1(2)
  • L(R) UNFULL SENSOR 26QJ1(2)
  • L(R) FULL SENSOR 27QJ1(2).
     (b) If:

  • one or more of the messages identified here is/are shown, troubleshoot the LRU(s) before you do Para. 3.D.

  • none of the above messages is shown, do Para. 3.D.

D. Test
   (1) Do the Operational Test of the Main Transfer System AMM 28-26-00-710-001.
     (a) If during the test:

  • a manual mode fuel transfer fault is found, do troubleshooting on it before you start the auto mode fault

  • the auto control system does not operate as specified, do Para. 4.A.

  • an ECAM warning or FAULT legend failure is found, do the Center Tank Auto Transfer Warning and/or FAULT Legend Failure procedure (Ref. TSM TASK 28-26-00-810-815)

  • the main transfer system operates as specified, no troubleshooting work steps are necessary.
4. Fault Isolation
Subtask 28-26-00-810-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Procedure
   (1) Refuel AMM 12-11-28-650-003, defuel AMM 28-25-00-650-001 or transfer fuel AMM 28-25-00-869-001 to obtain these fuel levels:
  • left wing tank 5100 kg (1124 lb)
  • right wing tank 5100 kg (1124 lb)
  • center tank more than 300 kg (660 lb).
   (2) Set the Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitoring ECAM system to on AMM 31-60-00-860-001.
     (a) On the ECAM control panel:
1 Push (in) the FUEL P/BSW to get the FUEL page.
2 Make sure that the FUEL page shows on the ECAM lower Display Unit (DU).
   (3) At the cockpit overhead panel 40VU:
     (a) Set (push-in) the P/BSW-FUEL/CTR TK/MODE SEL/AUTO (4QL) to AUTO.
     (b) Set (push-in) all the wing-tank fuel-pump P/BSWs to ON.
     (c) Set (push-in) the center tank L and R XFR P/BSWs to ON.
   (4) At the ECAM lower DU, examine the FUEL page.
     (a) If the:

  • center tank left side XFR shows off, do step (5)

  • center tank right side XFR shows off, do step (6)
   (5) Interchange the FLSCU-1 (7QJ) with the FLSCU-2 (9QJ) AMM 28-46-34-000-001 and AMM 28-46-34-400-001.
