Removal of the Upper Starter Duct
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
(4) On the AIR COND panel 30VU:

IF IT IS NECESSARY TO ENERGIZE THE AIRCRAFT FOR A MAINTENANCE WORK WHILE YOU DO THIS MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE, MAKE SURE THAT ONLY EXTERNAL POWER IS USED. THE USE OF APU OR ENGINE POWER CAN CAUSE PRESSURIZED AIR LEAKAGE IN THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM, AND INJURY CAN OCCUR.
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU: (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
(4) On the AIR COND panel 30VU:
- make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (ON legend is off),
- put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to operate the pneumatic system.
- put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.
B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040)

(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT).
4. Procedure(1) Open the fan cowl doors: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040)

(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT).
Subtask 80-13-43-020-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Upper Starter Duct.
(1) Remove the upper starter duct (10) from the engine.
(2) Install the COVER - PROTECTION on the ducts.
(3) Cut the lockwire and remove the bolt (15), the washers (20), and the nuts (25) that connect the links to the upper starter duct (10).
(4) Remove the couplings (30) that attach the starter duct (10) to the starter valve and to the pylon duct.
(1) Remove the upper starter duct (10) from the engine.
(2) Install the COVER - PROTECTION on the ducts.
(3) Cut the lockwire and remove the bolt (15), the washers (20), and the nuts (25) that connect the links to the upper starter duct (10).
(4) Remove the couplings (30) that attach the starter duct (10) to the starter valve and to the pylon duct.
