Cleaning of the Starter Sight Glass
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

Subtask 80-13-41-941-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 80-13-41-010-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
(a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR.
(b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR.
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in to position.
4. Procedure(1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
(a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

(b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)

(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in to position.

B. Remove the Starter Sight Glass Plug
(1) Cut and remove the lockwire from the sight glass plug.
(2) Remove the Starter Sight Glass Plug from the pneumatic starter.
Subtask 80-13-41-160-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Cut and remove the lockwire from the sight glass plug.
(2) Remove the Starter Sight Glass Plug from the pneumatic starter.
C. Clean the Sight Glass Plug
(a) Immerse the sight glass plug in the cleaning fluid stoddard solvent (Material No.V01-297) .
(b) Soak the sight glass plug in the Stoddard solvent until the oil film or any other deposits loosen or dissolve.
(c) Use a SCRAPER - NARROW TIP with a small piece of lint free cloth (Material No.V02-099) wrapped around the tip of the tool or a cotton wool swab (Material No.V02-174) to remove the remaining deposits from the glass.
(d) Rinse the sight glass plug with clean water and dry with clean compressed air.
(2) If the starter sight glass is clear after cleaning it can be reused.
(3) If the starter glass remains dark, replace it with a new sight glass plug.
Subtask 80-13-41-420-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: Only stoddard solvent (Material No.V01-297) should be used to clean the sight glass. Other product will cause the glass to dull.
(1) Clean the sight glass with Stoddard solvent. (a) Immerse the sight glass plug in the cleaning fluid stoddard solvent (Material No.V01-297) .
(b) Soak the sight glass plug in the Stoddard solvent until the oil film or any other deposits loosen or dissolve.
(c) Use a SCRAPER - NARROW TIP with a small piece of lint free cloth (Material No.V02-099) wrapped around the tip of the tool or a cotton wool swab (Material No.V02-174) to remove the remaining deposits from the glass.
(d) Rinse the sight glass plug with clean water and dry with clean compressed air.
(2) If the starter sight glass is clear after cleaning it can be reused.
(3) If the starter glass remains dark, replace it with a new sight glass plug.
D. Install the Starter Sight Glass Plug.
(1) Install a new AIPC 80-13-41-80-170 SEALING RING (2) to the sight glass plug (1).
(2) ApplyV10-077 lubricant (engine oil) to the threads of the sight glass plug.
(3) Install the Starter Sight Glass Plug.
(4) TORQUE sight glass plug to between 6.7 and 5.1 m.N (59.29 and 45.13 lbf.in )

Subtask 80-13-41-610-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Install a new AIPC 80-13-41-80-170 SEALING RING (2) to the sight glass plug (1).
(2) Apply
(3) Install the Starter Sight Glass Plug.
(4) TORQUE sight glass plug to between 6.7 and 5.1 m.N (59.29 and 45.13 lbf.in )
. WARNING:
USE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(5) Safety the plug with safety cable (Material No.V02-274) or safety cable (Material No.V02-275) or corrosion resistant steel lockwire (Material No.V02-141) .
