A. Installation of the Pneumatic Starter
(2) Lubricate the new AIPC 80-11-10-01-060 O-RING (50) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) and install in the groove of starter output drive-shaft.
END OF PRE SB CFM56-5 72-094
POST SB CFM56-5 72-094
(4) Install the seal ring assembly (40) as follows:
(a) If necessary, install a new AIPC 80-11-10-01-050 PREFORMED PACKING (30) on the support (20).
(b) Lubricate the seal ring assembly (40) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
(c) Install the seal ring assembly (40) in the starter drive pad of the accessory gearbox.
END OF POST SB CFM56-5 72-094
(5) Lubricate the output shaft splines of starter with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
(6) Align locating dowel on starter (60) with locating hole on AGB housing. Engage the starter carefully in the drive pad to prevent damage to the O-ring (50). If necessary, turn the starter output drive-shaft by hand to align mating splines.
(7) Put the V-clamp.
.
(b) Put the V-clamp (70) and the air supply duct (80) in position on the starter air-inlet orifice. Lubricate the threads of clamp nut with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) . Install the nut and TORQUE to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN )
.
(8) Fill the starter with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-80-610-002).
Subtask 80-11-10-710-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE THE ENGINE STARTER. BECAUSE THE STARTER WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 38 POUNDS (17 KG), INJURY CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
DURING INSTALLATION, KEEP THE STARTER PERPENDICULAR TO THE AGB MOUNTING PAD TO PREVENT SEIZE AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE OUTPUT DRIVE SHAFT.
CAUTION:
DO NOT INSTALL THE STARTER ON THE AGB WITHOUT ITS SEALING ITEMS (NEW O-RING AND THE RE-USED OR NEW SEAL RING). IF THE STARTER IS INSTALLED WITHOUT THESE SEALS, THE ENGINE CAN LEAK OIL. THIS CAN CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE.
CAUTION:
DURING INSTALLATION, ADJUST THE ORIENTATION OF THE LOWER DUCT. MAKE SURE THAT THE PS3 LINE DOES NOT TOUCH THE LOWER DUCT OR OTHER PARTS IN THIS AREA. IF IT DOES, CHAFING OF THE PS3 HOSE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
DURING STARTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION, BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE STARTER FUSE PIN WHEN YOU TURN/TWIST THE STARTER ASSEMBLY IN OPPOSITE CLOCKWISE/COUNTERCLOCKWISE DIRECTIONS FROM THE MOUNTING PAD. CFM RECOMMENDS THAT YOU USE THE CORRECT LEVERAGE PROCEDURES AND CORRECT TOOLS TO REMOVE/INSTALL THE STARTER ASSEMBLY FROM/ON THE AGB.
(1) Remove the protective plugs. (2) Lubricate the new AIPC 80-11-10-01-060 O-RING (50) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) and install in the groove of starter output drive-shaft.
NOTE: The SB 72-094 permits to dissociate the seal ring assembly (40) into two parts:
PRE SB CFM56-5 72-094
(3) Lubricate the re-usable or new AIPC 80-11-10-01-040 SEAL (40) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) and install it in the starter drive pad of the accessory gearbox. - The support (20).
- The preformed packing (30).
This allows to change only the preformed packing (30) instead of changing all the whole.

CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE DUCTS ARE CORRECTLY CONNECTED WHEN YOU TORQUE THE COUPLINGS. IF THE DUCTS ARE NOT CORRECTLY CONNECTED THEY CAN LEAK AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO ADJACENT ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS.
(a) Put the V-clamp (10) in position on the mating flanges. Lubricate the threads of clamp nut with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) . Install the nut and TORQUE to between 80 and 75 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.85 m.daN )
B. Test
5. Close-upCAUTION:
DO NOT OPERATE THE ENGINE WITHOUT A CORRECTLY INSTALLED STARTER ON THE AGB STARTER DRIVE PAD.
IF THE STARTER IS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY, THE ENGINE CAN HAVE OIL LEAKAGE. THIS CAN CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE.
(1) Do a minimum idle check and do a check for oil leaks at the starter drive pad and for air leaks at starter to air duct connection (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-006). Subtask 80-11-10-410-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
