Removal of the Rod Supply Junction Pipe

CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 78-31-49-941-100-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040)
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.

4. Procedure
Subtask 78-31-49-020-097-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Rod Supply Junction Pipe
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) under the lower hydraulic actuator.
   (2) Disconnect the lower rod supply hose from the actuator and let the hydraulic fluid drain into the container.
   (3) Connect the lower rod supply hose to the actuator.
   (4) TORQUE the coupling nut to between 150 and 130 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.47 m.daN ) T.
NOTE: Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.CP2245) on the nut and connection after they are torqued.
   (5) Remove the nuts and the bolts that attach the double flange and the upper half clamps to the double hydraulic line bracket.
   (6) Loosen the bottom bolt that attach the upper half clamp to the middle hydraulic line bracket. Remove the top bolt and the upper head shield.
   (7) Remove nuts and bolts that attach the lower head shield to the forward frame.
   (8) Disconnect the rod supply pipe from the middle hydraulic line bracket.
   (9) Remove the nut that attach the rod supply junction pipe to the middle hydraulic line bracket.
   (10) Disconnect the upper rod supply hose from the upper rod swivel joint.
   (11) Disconnect the rod supply junction pipe from the lower rod swivel joint.
   (12) Remove the swivel joint from the rod supply junction pipe.
   (13) Remove and discard the packing (20).
   (14) Put COVER - PROTECTION on the pipe ends.
