Drain the Pipes of the Actuator System

1. Reason for the Job
The thrust reverser consists of a left and right half door. Each half includes an upper and a lower blocker door actuator and a latch mechanism. The actuators and latch mechanism are hydraulically operated. When you drain the lower actuator and latch mechanism you also drain the upper.

3. Job Set-up

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040)
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.

C. Make the thrust reverser unserviceable (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041)
4. Procedure

WARNING: WEAR A FACE SHIELD WHICH IS RESISTANT TO HIGH PRESSURE JETS WHEN YOU WORK ON PRESSURIZED SYSTEMS.
WARNING: DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
  • FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
  • GET MEDICAL AID.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THERE IS NO UNWANTED MATERIAL IN THE PORTS AND ORIFICES OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: YOU MUST INSTALL HYDRAULIC TUBES WITH HYDRAULIC FLUID AS LUBRICANT.
A. Drain the pipes of the actuactor system.
NOTE: The procedure is the same for LH and RH sides.
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) under the lower blocker door actuator.
   (2) Disconnect the nuts of head and rod supply hoses from the actuator. Let the hydraulic fluid drain completely from the hoses.
   (3) Reconnect the nut of the head supply hose on the lower blocker door actuator.
   (4) TORQUE the nut to between 3.0 and 2.7 m.daN (22.12 and 19.91 lbf.ft ) T
   (5) Reconnect the nut of the rod supply hose on the lower blocker door actuator.
   (6) TORQUE the nut to between 1.7 and 1.5 m.daN (12.54 and 11.06 lbf.ft )

   (7) Remove the container.

B. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Close the fan cowl doors: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-040)
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
