A. Visual inspection of the VBV main flexible shaft and of the inter-connecting flexible shafts
Subtask 75-31-30-220-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL | INSPECT/CHECK | MAXIMUM SERVICEABLE LIMITS | REMARKS |
|---|---|---|
| 1.Examine the flexible shaft for damage such as: | | |
| A.Waves | The maximum wave amplitude must not be more than 0.020 in. (0.51 mm). | Replace the flexible shaft (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-002). |
| B.Spacing between wires | Not permitted | Replace flexible shaft (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-002). |
| C.Very worn, narrowed or broken wires | Not permitted | Replace flexible shaft (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-002). |
| D.Internal breakage - Flexing test | Flexing of the flexible shaft 2 in. (50.80 mm) while holding both ends must not produce any sudden breakaway during the movement of the flexible shaft. The flexing test must be performed in several different planes. | Replace the flexible shaft (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-002). |
B. Do a dimensional check of the main and inter-connecting flexible shaft hexagonal end for wear damage as follows:
(1) Measure dimension A (across flats).
Dimension A must be 0.350 in. (8.89 mm) minimum. Replace the shaft if dimension A measures less than this minimum value (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-002).
(2) Measure dimension B (across hexagon corners)
PRE SB CFM56-5B 72-0119
Dimension B must be 0.370 in. (9.40 mm) minimum.
END OF PRE SB CFM56-5B 72-0119
POST SB CFM56-5B 72-0119
Dimension B must be 0.385 in. (9.78 mm) minimum.
END OF SB CFM56-5B 72-0119
Replace the shaft if dimension B measures less than this minimum value (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-30-400-002).
