Cleaning of the Ignition Exciter


WARNING: BEFORE YOU START WORK ON THE IGNITION SYSTEM, MAKE SURE THAT THE IGNITION EXCITERS ARE DE-ENERGIZED FOR A MINIMUM OF FIVE MINUTES. ALSO DO NOT TOUCH THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS. THE IGNITION SYSTEM VOLTAGE IS VERY HIGH, AND THE IGNITION EXCITERS CAN HAVE AN ELECTRICAL CHARGE EVEN WHEN NOT ENERGIZED. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, INJURY CAN OCCUR.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 74-11-10-941-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

D. Disconnect the Power Supply and the Ignition Lead.
   (1) Disconnect the power supply cable from the electrical input connector on the forward side of the exciter.
   (2) Disconnect the ignition lead from the ignition lead connector on the aft side of the exciter.
4. Procedure
Subtask 74-11-10-140-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Clean the Electrical Connector.
   (1) Clean the electrical connector with a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT and stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) or acetone (Material No.CP1039) or ardrox 552 (Material No.CP2559) or turco ind 79 (Material No.CP2560) or mag-chem teksol (Material No.CP2566) or degreasol 99 R (Material No.CP2584) or mag-chem skysol (Material No.CP2656) .
   (2) Remove deposits with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .

B. Connect the Power Supply and the Ignition Lead.
   (1) Connect the ignition lead to the electrical input connector on the aft side of the exciter. TORQUE the connector nut to between 160 and 140 lbf.in (1.81 and 1.58 m.daN ) T.
   (2) Connect the power supply cable to the electrical input connector on the forward side of the exciter. Tighten the connector nut with your hand, plus one-eight of a turn. If necessary, use PLIERS - NOSE, SOFT, LONG.

C. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

NOTE: As an alternative procedure you can do this test without the CFDS (Ref. AMM TASK 74-00-00-710-043).
