Removal of the Fuel Metering Unit (FMU)
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 73-21-05-010-054-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
4. Procedure(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
Subtask 73-21-05-020-051-A
A. Removal of the FMU
(1) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below all the tube openings and the FMU (1).
(2) Remove the electrical connectors (27) from the fuel strainer differential pressure sensor (transducer) (5).
(3) Remove the transducer (5) from the FMU (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 73-34-10-000-801).
(4) Disconnection of the harness electrical connectors from the applicable receptacles of the FMU (1):
(b) Disconnect the HJ5B harness electrical connector (3) from the FMU (1).
(5) Disconnection of the fuel tube (6) from the FMU (1):
(a) Remove the four bolts (7) from the fuel tube (6).
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (6) from the FMU (1).
(c) Remove and discard the gasket (8).
(6) Disconnection of the fuel tube (9) from the FMU (1):
(a) Remove the four bolts (10) from the fuel tube (9).
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (9) from the FMU (1).
(c) Remove and discard the gasket (11).
(7) Disconnection of the fuel tube (13) from the FMU (1):
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (13) from the FMU (1).
(8) Disconnection of the fuel tube (15) from the fuel tube (26):
(a) Remove the four bolts (24) from the four nuts (23).
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (15) from the fuel tube (26).
(c) Remove and discard the gasket (25).
(9) Disconnection of the fuel tube (18) from the FMU (1):
(a) Remove the four bolts (19) from the fuel tube (18).
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (18) from the FMU (1).
(c) Remove and discard the gasket (20).
(10) Removal of the FMU (1):
(b) Move the 9471M17 STAND, JACK - LRU INSTALL/REMOVE to the correct position.
(c) Remove the four bolts (21) and the four washers (22) from the FMU (1).
(d) Remove the FMU (1) from the engine.
(11) Remove the FMU (1) from the 956A1613G01 ADAPTER, FUEL METERING UNIT.
(12) Disconnection of the fuel tube (15) from the FMU (1):
(a) Remove the four bolts (16) from the fuel tube (15).
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (15) from the FMU (1).
(c) Remove and discard the gasket (17).
(13) Install the COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION on all the open ports, open tubes, open hoses and the connectors.
(14) In the event of shipping or prolonged storage, please preserve the FMU (1) per theCMM 732105 .
(1) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below all the tube openings and the FMU (1).
(2) Remove the electrical connectors (27) from the fuel strainer differential pressure sensor (transducer) (5).
(3) Remove the transducer (5) from the FMU (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 73-34-10-000-801).
(4) Disconnection of the harness electrical connectors from the applicable receptacles of the FMU (1):
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(a) Disconnect the HJ5A harness electrical connector (2) from the FMU (1). (b) Disconnect the HJ5B harness electrical connector (3) from the FMU (1).
(5) Disconnection of the fuel tube (6) from the FMU (1):
(a) Remove the four bolts (7) from the fuel tube (6).
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (6) from the FMU (1).
(c) Remove and discard the gasket (8).
(6) Disconnection of the fuel tube (9) from the FMU (1):
(a) Remove the four bolts (10) from the fuel tube (9).
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (9) from the FMU (1).
(c) Remove and discard the gasket (11).
(7) Disconnection of the fuel tube (13) from the FMU (1):
CAUTION:
USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
(a) Loosen the coupling nut (12) from the spherical pipe coupling (14). - ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
- ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (13) from the FMU (1).
(8) Disconnection of the fuel tube (15) from the fuel tube (26):
(a) Remove the four bolts (24) from the four nuts (23).
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (15) from the fuel tube (26).
(c) Remove and discard the gasket (25).
(9) Disconnection of the fuel tube (18) from the FMU (1):
(a) Remove the four bolts (19) from the fuel tube (18).
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (18) from the FMU (1).
(c) Remove and discard the gasket (20).
(10) Removal of the FMU (1):
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL THIS COMPONENT. THE WEIGHT OF THIS COMPONENT IS 31.4 LBS (14.2 KG). YOU MUST GET SUFFICIENT AID FROM OTHER PERSONNEL AND THE APPLICABLE EQUIPMENT TO HOLD THE COMPONENT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURIES TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(a) Install the 956A1613G01 ADAPTER, FUEL METERING UNIT on the 9471M17 STAND, JACK - LRU INSTALL/REMOVE. (b) Move the 9471M17 STAND, JACK - LRU INSTALL/REMOVE to the correct position.
(c) Remove the four bolts (21) and the four washers (22) from the FMU (1).
(d) Remove the FMU (1) from the engine.
(11) Remove the FMU (1) from the 956A1613G01 ADAPTER, FUEL METERING UNIT.
(12) Disconnection of the fuel tube (15) from the FMU (1):
(a) Remove the four bolts (16) from the fuel tube (15).
(b) Disconnect the fuel tube (15) from the FMU (1).
(c) Remove and discard the gasket (17).
(13) Install the COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION on all the open ports, open tubes, open hoses and the connectors.
(14) In the event of shipping or prolonged storage, please preserve the FMU (1) per the
Fuel Metering Unit (FMU)
