Removal of the Fuel Diverter and Return Valve

WARNING: DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

WARNING: BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET AIRCRAFT FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU GET FUEL ON YOUR SKIN OR ON YOUR CLOTHES, FLUSH IT IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER. IF NECESSARY, GET MEDICAL HELP. AIRCRAFT FUEL IS POISONOUS.

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

WARNING: BE CAREFUL DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE FUEL DIVERTER AND RETURN VALVE BECAUSE IT WEIGHS 13 lbs (6 kg).

CAUTION: DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 73-13-42-941-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
(a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR.
(b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR.
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.

4. Procedure
Subtask 73-13-42-020-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

A. Remove the fuel cooler (FCOC) from the engine with the FDRV attached to the FCOC (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-43-000-010).

NOTE: Do not remove the FDRV independently of the FCOC from the engine. You can not remove the FDRV from the engine when the FCOC is installed on the engine.

(1) Remove the FDRV (5) from the FCOC (1).
(a) Remove the bolts (3) and (4), and the washers (2) which attach the FDRV (5) to the FCOC (1).
(b) Remove the FDRV (5) and drain the remaining fuel in to the container.
(c) Remove the sealing rings (6) and (7) from the FCOC (1) and discard them.

B. Put the applicable COVER - BLANKING on all of the openings.
