Installation of the Power Plant Flexible Fuel Tubes


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 73-11-48-941-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR.
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position

C. Remove the applicable covers/caps/plugs from all the openings.
4. Procedure
Subtask 73-11-48-420-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Install the flexible fuel tubes.
F Flexible Fuel Tubes ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Install the fuel tube (1) as follows:
     (a) Lubricate the threads on the union (14) and the fuel tube (1) with liquid moly NV thread compound (Material No.V04-019) .
     (b) Put the fuel tube in the correct position for the installation.
     (c) Connect the fuel tube to the union (14) on the mounting bracket (13). Tighten the fuel tube with your hand.
     (d) Apply V10-077lubricant (engine oil) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-010) on the threads of the bolts (6).
     (e) Put the new gasket (8) on the fuel tube (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-13-911-010).
     (f) Attach the fuel tube to the pylon interface with the washers (7) and the bolts (6).
     (g) TORQUE the bolts (6) to between 38.5 and 31.5 lbf.in (0.44 and 0.36 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
     (h) Safety the bolts:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Safety the bolts (6) with lockwire (Material No.V02-138) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-40-11-911-012)
     (i) Tighten the fuel tube connector:
CAUTION: HOLD THE UNIONS DURING THE TORQUE PROCEDURE TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE RIGID FUEL HOSES.
       1 TORQUE the fuel tube connector to between 510 and 470 lbf.in (5.76 and 5.31 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
   (2) Install the fuel tube (2) as follows:
     (a) Lubricate the threads on the union (12) and the fuel tube (2) with liquid paraffin (Material No.V10-060) or petroleum (Material No.V10-038) .
     (b) Put the fuel tube in the correct position for the installation.
     (c) Connect the fuel tube to the union (12) on the mounting bracket. Tighten the fuel tube with your hand.
     (d) Apply V10-077lubricant (engine oil) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-010) on the threads of the bolts (11).
     (e) Put the new gasket (9) on the fuel tube (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-13-911-010).
     (f) Attach the fuel tube to the pylon interface with the washers (10) and the bolts (11).
     (g) TORQUE the bolts (11) to between 110 and 90 lbf.in (1.24 and 1.02 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
     (h) Safety the bolts:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Safety the bolts (11) with lockwire (Material No.V02-138) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-40-11-911-012)
     (i) Tighten the fuel tube connector:
CAUTION: HOLD THE UNIONS DURING THE TORQUE PROCEDURE TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE RIGID FUEL HOSES.
       1 TORQUE the fuel tube connector to between 1100 and 1000 lbf.in (12.43 and 11.30 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
     (j) Safety the fuel tube (1) and fuel tube (2) connectors:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Safety the fuel tube (1) and fuel tube (2) connectors with lockwire (Material No.V02-141A) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-40-11-911-012).
   (3) Install the spacer block assembly (5) as follows:
     (a) Put the spacer block around the fuel tubes in the correct position for the installation.
     (b) Attach the steel band (4) around the spacer block and turn the screw (3) clockwise until it is in the locked position.
     (c) TORQUE the screw (3) to between 105 and 85 lbf.in (1.19 and 0.96 m.daN ) T.
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowls (
Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR.
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).
Subtask 73-11-48-790-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Test requirements
   (1) Do an idle leak check (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-012).
NOTE: A dry motor leak check (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-045) may be used to check for leaks, but this must be followed by an idle leak check (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-012).
