Removal of the Fuel Metering Unit (FMU) Fuel Strainer

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 73-11-15-020-050-A
A. Removal of the FMU Fuel Strainer
WARNING: BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET AIRCRAFT FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU GET FUEL ON YOUR SKIN OR ON YOUR CLOTHES, FLUSH IT IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER. IF NECESSARY, GET MEDICAL HELP. AIRCRAFT FUEL IS POISONOUS.
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) in position under the FMU (1) to collect the fuel.
   (2) Remove the drain plug (2) from the FMU (1).
   (3) Let the fuel drain from the FMU (1) into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
   (4) Remove and discard the preformed packing (3) from the drain plug (2).
   (5) Apply engine oil (Material No.CP2442) on the new preformed packing (3).
   (6) Install the new EIPC 73-21-05-01-045 PREFORMED PACKING (3) on the drain plug (2).
   (7) Apply molykote G-n (Material No.
CP2444) or graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) on the threads and under the head of the drain plug (2).
   (8) Install the drain plug (2) in the FMU (1).
   (9) TORQUE the drain plug (2) to between 35 and 32 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.36 m.daN ) T.
   (10) Remove the four bolts (6) and the four washers (5) that attach the FMU fuel strainer (4) to the FMU (1).
   (11) Remove the FMU fuel strainer (4) from the FMU (1).
NOTE: Do not disassemble the FMU fuel strainer (4). It is not necessary to disassemble the FMU fuel strainer to clean it. Special tools are necessary to assemble the FMU fuel strainer (4).
   (12) Remove and discard the preformed packing (7) and preformed packing (8).
   (13) Install COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION on all the open ports, tubes, hoses and connectors.
