Removal of the Accessory Gearbox (AGB) Link


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 72-23-06-020-050-A
A. Removal of the Accessory Gearbox (AGB) Links
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (1) Removal of the stirrup assembly (2) from the AGB assembly (1):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (3) from the mount axis (6).
     (b) Loosen and remove the nut (4) along with the washer (5) from the mount axis (6).
     (c) Remove the mount axis (6) that attaches the stirrup assembly (2) to the AGB housing lug (7).
     (d) Remove and discard the cotter pin (8) from the mount axis (10).
     (e) Loosen and remove the nut (9) from the mount axis (10).
     (f) Remove the mount axis (10) and spacer (11) that attach the stirrup assembly (2) to the fan frame shroud (32).
   (2) Removal of the axial link assembly (12) from the AGB assembly (1):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (13) from the mount axis (16).
     (b) Loosen and remove the nut (14) along with the washer (15) from the mount axis (16).
     (c) Remove the mount axis (16) that attaches the axial link assembly (12) to the axial lug (17).
     (d) Loosen the mount axis (18) that attaches the axial link assembly (12) to the fan frame shroud (32).
     (e) Remove the spacer (19) from the mount axis (18).
     (f) Remove the barrel nut retainer (21) and barrel nut (20).
   (3) Removal of the link assembly (22) from the AGB assembly (1):
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (23) from the mount axis (26).
     (b) Loosen and remove the nut (24) along with the washer (25) from the mount axis (26).
     (c) Remove the mount axis (26) that attaches the link assembly (22) to the AGB mounting lug (27).
     (d) Remove and discard the cotter pin (28) from the mount axis (30).
     (e) Loosen and remove the nut (29) from the mount axis (30).
     (f) Remove the mount axis (30) and spacer (31) that attach the link assembly (22) to the fan frame shroud (32).
