Visual Inspection of the Fan Blade Lock


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
1. Reason for the Job
This procedure gives criteria for visual inspection of the fan blade locks.
NOTE: The inspection criteria below are applicable after removal of high metal.
NOTE: You can use equivalent alternatives for standard tools, equipment and consumable materials.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 72-21-61-941-050-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Make sure that the fan blades are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-20-000-801).

A. Visual Inspection of the Fan Blade Locks (1)
   (1) Do the visual inspection of all titanium area:

2.Dents
Any amount up to 0.004 in. (0.10 mm).

3.Nicks
Any amount up to 0.004 in. (0.10 mm).

4.Scratches
Any amount up to 0.004 in. (0.10 mm).

   (2) Do the visual inspection of the dimension A:

3.Honeycomb disbonding of the adhesive
Not serviceable.

4.Honeycomb cracks in the adhesive
Not serviceable.

5.Honeycomb sheet metal cover nicks, dents, scratches along the edges
- Not more than three locations
- 0.0250 in. (0.63 mm) in depth
- 0.18299 in. (4.65 mm) in length.

6.Honeycomb sheet metal cover nicks, dents, scratches on all other areas
- Not more than three locations
- 0.01701 in. (0.43 mm) in depth
- 0.07299 in. (1.85 mm) in length.

   (9) Do the visual inspection of the dimension G:

5. Close-up

A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
