1. Reason for the Job
Use this procedure for a visual inspection of the fan exit fairing (splitter).
Perform this procedure when foreign object damage is suspected.

A. Detailed Visual Inspection (DVI) of the Fan Exit Fairing (Splitter)
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
   (1) Put the 636-1100-3GSE INLET COWL PROTECT COVER or equivalent MAT - PROTECTIVE in the inlet cowl.
   (2) Find the fan exit fairing, which splits the air between the core engine and the fan bypass, aft of the fan blades.
   (3) Visually inspect the fan exit fairing (splitter) for damage as follows (see table 6):
     (a) Look between the fan blades and inspect the fan exit fairing (splitter) for signs of damage with the use of a FLASHLIGHT.

For round bottom dents
Dents with a depth up to 0.100 in. (2.54 mm)
The fan exit fairing (splitter) is permitted to continue in service.

Dents with a depth more than 0.100 in. (2.54 mm)
Not permitted. Repair the fairing. (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-320-801) or replace the fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-400-801) in no more than 50 flight hours.
For nicks, gouges or scratches
Nicks, gouges or scratches with a maximum depth of 0.020 in. (0.508 mm)
The fan exit fairing (splitter) is permitted to continue service.

Nicks, gouges or scratches with a depth more than 0.020 in. (0.508 mm)
Not permitted. Repair the fairing. (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-320-801) or replace the fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-400-801) in no more than five cycles.
For pitting or corrosion
Pitting or corrosion with a maximum depth of 0.005 in. (0.127 mm)
The fan exit fairing (splitter) is permitted to continue in service.

Pitting or corrosion with a depth more than 0.005 in. (0.127 mm)
Not permitted. Repair the fairing. (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-320-801) or replace the fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-400-801) in no more than five cycles.
For cracks
Any amount
Not permitted. Replace the fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-400-801) before the next flight.
For punctures
Any amount
Not permitted. Replace the fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-06-400-801) before the next flight.
For loose attachment screws
Any amount
Not permitted. Tighten all loose screws immediately.
For missing attachment screws
A maximum of one missing attachment screw
Not permitted. Do a check of all remaining screws and tighten if necessary. Replace the missing screw in not more than 50 flight hours.

More than one missing attachment screw
Not permitted. Do a check of all remaining screws and tighten if necessary. Replace the missing screws immediately.
   (4) Examine the assembly for unwanted objects, damage and correct assembly.
   (5) Remove the MAT - PROTECTIVE.

A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
